I would like to talk with parents who have made the same decision of not medicating a child. I have a 7 yr old boy who is having all kinds of problems from home to school to the few friends he has left. I have him on the feingold diet which has made a difference but not enough. Please any suggestions of how to treat without meds. HELP!!

i dont have an answer to your question. i am actually seeking help. i have had success with using charts, keeping things organized, curbing video games and t.v. these were things that i've always done because everywhere i read said that all children benefit from them.

i have an 8yr old son who was always an A student and stood above his class in his ability to remember long speeches, play piano and drums with no training, etc. Now that he is in the third grade his teacher his grades are slipping to mostly C's and his teacher is pressing to meet with the school counselor/therapist and after our last meeting revealed that her daughter has adhd. I don't want him to be misdiagnosed. i have noticed that he is having trouble focusing, completing tasks, and feels that he is unable to make friends. i don't know what to do. i've been doing a lot of online research. and i'm wondering why this is just now becoming such an issue with him. does he really have adhd, is he responding to the total lack of contact from his father(he idolized him), is the teacher being affected by her own personal issues (she always comes to tears when speaking of her daughter). i know that pinpointing the cause will help me to help him. i prefer the non medicating approach.
