Hi CraftyTina, I totaly understand because I too have a 10 year old son and when we found out that he had ADHD in the first grade, he couldn't sit still, always lied and thought it was funny when he hurt his younger sisters. I have him on concerta and he hasn't done any of that for a long time. Yes it is normal for ADHD kids and adults. My husband also has ADHD but he is on meds too when he isn't on it you know because he can't even do his job right. I always can tell when either one hasn't taken their meds and they can tell themselves. Believe me you are not the only ones that feels like they are going crazy. Just don't. LOL. ↑ |
Until he gets to see this Dr everyone keeps telling me to make sure he gets displined. I have done all of that. He just basically laughs about it. Alot of people tell me that he is never going to learn because I let him go off his groundations. I am here 24/7 with him. I feel like in a way when people say the things they do I am a bad mother. My daughter who is turning 19 this month said to me that well he knows how to get what he wants because then he starts screaming at whining. I go to church weekly and my pastor has talked to my son. But nothing works. ↑ |
What did he do? You don't need a psychiatrist to get him on ADD meds. Most pediatricians are very familiar with ADD/ADHD and will prescribe a low dose of Ritalin/ Adderall to start. It should help a lot if ADD/ADHD is his problem. The other side of that is that drugs are not a magic cure-all. Your son sound undisciplined. I have a 10 year old boy also, and he can be mouthy. I have to be tough with him when he acts fresh. Don't give up on yourself - your son needs you. ↑ |
I have the exact same issues with my 7-year-old. He's constantly in trouble at school and basically laughs in my face when I try to discipline him at home. It's not until I get really mad and start screaming that he will actually take me serious and listen. It's an ongoing battle but I have chose not to medicate him and have realized that this is something I will have to deal with for a long time so I take one day at a time and do the best that I can. It can always be worse so I thank my lucky stars that this is all he has. ↑ |
