Is anyone's child taking the drug vyvance sor ADHD? I am just wondering because my son is taking it and he is also taking Rispedal and I am curious to see how other parents give it to their children. Is anyone's else's children taking more then just the vyvanse and if they are what do they think of the medication? I am not sure it is working and am wondering if it would be better for him to just take the Vyvanse alone without the Risperdal. He has been on a bunch of different medications and so far have not found one that works that won't give him ticks.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

My son 13 has been taking Vyvanse for 3 months not seeing much improvement. He previousley took concerta and it worked for quite awhile but quit helping about 6 months ago then tried Focalin made him violent. Now Psyc. wants to start him on risperdal 2xs a day 1 in morning and 1 at night along with the vyvanse. Im nervous about all the side effects of risperdal but my sons defiant behavior is getting really bad, thats why it was prescribbd.

Since my son has been on the Vyvanse I feel like it definitly does work. He is also taking Risperdal with it which I wanted to know if anyone else's children are taking something else with the vyvanse. I am not sure if he needs both the vyvanse and Risperdal and I actually gave him just the vyvanse alone one morning and it seemed to work pretty well alone.
Has anyone's child had side effects from the Vyvanse or the Risperdal? If so please let me know so I know what to look out for.

Be careful with vyvance, it has a tendency to do permanent ticks. Sometimes it will go away, but many times its permanent damage.

Also, many children will become "Dependent" at a chemical level, and when they are not on the medication, they could experience nausea, vomiting, and extreme migraines not to mention the tics. This is very common even though they are not physically addicted.

My son has been on Vyvanse fo over a year now. The cost is $127 month w/o insurance and I have to pay $55 monthly w/ insurance. He has done best with this medication after searching for the right one for 8+ years. The cost is worth it even tho it is a hardship for us. He was also on Risperdal and I had to take him off of it immediatly. He started drooling, had muscle pain and his eyes where rolling up. Horrible! He has done just fine on the Vyvanse alone. But all children are different. Ticks were also an issue when they tried to introduce a combonation. Now, he is an A-B student and much happier. Good luck to you! I have found that I will most likely always have to fight for my childs right to the best treatment, regardless of his doctors recommendations!

my son is 11 yrs old and has been on vyvanse 50mg, with zoloft in the morning and taking seroquel with tenex in the evening to help go to sleep. He was recently upped to 70mg of vyvanse, and started having chest pains... eeekkk. now waiting to see if we can go back to the 50mg as it was doing well for him in school.

I find it odd that many of the children talked about in this forum are taking 50-70 mg of vyvanse. I am on vyvanse for ADD and I take 40 mg...but I'm 23 years old. I started out taking 30 mg, and my doctor was reluctant to bump me up to the 40 mgs due to the fact that the dosage is determined by weight. I know a lot of doctors out there are pill pushers and not at all concerned with the safety of your children. Please double check with your doctors or get a second opinion on the correct dosage.
As for the original post, I have no experience with Risperdal. I have taken Ritalin, Strattera, Adderall, and Vyvanse (I was diagnosed with ADD as a kid and was on and off medication throughout my life). To be honest the Vyvanse works the best. Straterra was by far the worst. I have also heard terrible things about concerta from people that have taken it. Vyvanse lasts six hours, and instead of crashing (like you would off ritalin or adderall) it tapers off. I have had sleeping issues since I have been taking it and It costs me about $25 with insurance.

also try taking vyvanse ONLY because the other medication may work against each other..as for the sleep, my daughter has no problem sleeping because it tapers off by bedtime.i give it to her at 7:30am shes out of school at 3pm,3:30pm homework around 5pm *PING PONG PING* shes wired,so i got her outside activities too use the hyper energy on instead of my furniture.and shes ready for bed at 8:30pm and she sleeps through the night fine.

I am the parent of a five year old on vyvance and I to would break it open and would put it in water and after a few months for some reason it didn't seem to be helping she started zinging, So the doctor lowed from 30 mg. to 20 mg. but she is worse now then before. I will start giving it to her with apple sauce to see it the water just takes away from the effect. Thank you for you're posting I hope I get some change out of her, It's just not fun for her to deal with all the effects she is experiences. Once again thanks

my son was on daytrana and risperdal and i found him not experiencing the full effects of the daytrana. also the fact that risperdal is an anti-psychotic scared me. after i took him off the risperdal and the daytrana had time to work on its own, it seemed to be positive. he is now on vyvanse because his rebounds on daytrana were hard. doing well so far on vyvanse. also altering his diet has helped.

My 8 year old daughter started Vyvanse 10 mg in the AM and Zoloft 12.5mg in the AM for ADHD with some anxiety. I never realized that she had as much anxiety as she had until she had been on the Zoloft. We saw an immediate improvement in the first few days. Her doc just increased the Vyvanse to 20mg and we are delighted. I had been so reluctant to start medications and had tried just about everything, diet changes, vitamins etc. I just can't believe that it took us so long to start the meds. I wish I had done it sooner !
It was disrupting our family. Melatonin 3mg ~ 30 mins before bedtime has been working very well to help her get a good night's sleep. Unfortunately, we are still battling with bedwetting, which her doc thinks is due to the ADHD and the fact that she sleeps so soundly. We will try to ride it out over the summer. I hope it gets better as her ADHD is controlled.

My son had started taking vyvanse 30mg last year and earlier this year they raised him to 50mg. He is only 9 and 47 lbs. When he started he was 49lbs. I know thats not alot of weight but when you are already small I think 2lbs is a lot! The put him on a low bp pill at night to help him sleep. I have heard people say not to give something to your child that you would give yourself, ( I understand if you dont need it but still) I tried it and me at 160 felt sick if i tried to eat. He stays so down and out , I think most is spoiled but its getting where I cant tell if it is that or if the meds are causing him to be depressed. How do I talk to the doc about it? Every time we go I tell them but they never say anything about his happness!

My 8 yr old is currently on the lowest dose of Vyvance 20mg. He has been on the meds about six months now. We are dealing with him crashing horribly around 5:00pm, you can't look at him or say anything without him going insane either crying fits or so angry he is out of control. We also have trouble in the mornings before the medicine kicks in, I try to get him out of bed and dressed and it usually takes an hour and a half just to do this then it's a rare that he has gotten everything done such as brushing his teeth. I feel like during the day his focus is great but it just seems he is not himself. He also has lost about 7 lbs and his clothes are falling off, have to literally make him eat. Is anyone out there having these problems at this extreme?

My son (just turned 7 yo) has "the most severe case of ADHD" his pediatric neuropsych claims to have seen. Along with that, he also suffers from OCD, ODD, and anxiety. So far we have had failures with Straterra-no help, Concerta-manic behavior, Ritalin LA-tics, Daytrana patch-adhesive allergy, Risperdal-hot flashes/tachycardia, Abilify-cardiac complications, Adderall-not effective, Catapress-TTS-adhesive allergy, Clonidine-sedation/EXTREME hunger and weight gain/anger issues...and others. He is currently on (100% honest on the HIGH doses...) Zoloft 150mg every morning, Ritalin (regular immediate release) 20mg twice a day-three times a day, Ritalin SR twice a day, Clonidine 0.1mg three times a day. Unfortunantly he is still not under control. I am not one to jump into med use, especially stimulants but seeing my child on nothing does him more harm than good. We have slowly worked our way up to this combiniation with monthly increase/decreases to find the "perfect" combo, which we have yet to find! My main question is has anyone had experience with switching from the "ritalins" to vyvanse? There seems to be a lot of discussion as far as Adderall but i am not seeing any regarding ritalin. Also our ritalin schedule currently is 6 a.m.ritalin and ritalin sr, 1100 am ritalin sr, 4 p.m. ritalin, and 8 pm ritalin if needed. He has never had sleeping issues until the recent introduction of clonidine, which he wants to sleep all day and be fully awake at 3am! He obviously needs an immediate acting med in the morning so has anyone had experience with giving an immediate acting with the vyvanse to control until the vyvanse "kicks in"? I am not liking the idea of my 60 pound 7yo on zoloft 150mg, Ritalin up to 100mg, Clonidine 0.3mg, everyday, especially since they are now talking about INCREASING all med doses! Any input is greatly appreciated!!! (FYI-all current meds have been prescribed by his pediatric neuropsychiatrist along with his pediatric neurologist and ped psychiatrist approval. I have brought him for 2nd and 3rd opinions to ped neuropsych and got the same response from all 3!)

Hi it's me again my daughter is still doing fine on vyvance.I only give it to her during school and church.its a controlled drug I think that to much could have side effects.and please don't let the doctors turn your child into a science project...last but first,if you believe in the power of prayer, pray and ask the lord to help you and your child..

Hey parents, my 5yr old is on 20mg vyvanse and It helps some, but like another post I read below come 5-6 o'clock in evening he is pretty irritable and alittle tough to get up in morning, (7:00-7:30am) so far the effects do help him focus and listen in K-garden class and picks up on more when he's on it . not on sunday though. p.s vyvanse is not given to people based on weight. good luck

My son just started vyvanse a few weeks ago and I must say it is working very well! We started him on Strattera, which did nothing. Then Pamelor, again did nothing. I decided to do some research and ask other parents what they were using. I heard many good thing about vyvanse and decided to ask my doctor to prescibe it for my five year old son who has ADHD and just started kindergarden. I have not had any complaints from the teachers since he's been on it. THANK GOD!

The doctor stared him our on 30 mg. it wears off before we get home to do homework, so I think we need to go up to 40 or 50 mg. and we'll be just right. I son is so active that no one in my family helps me when it comes to babysitting. It's really hard not having help.

My 7 year-old son is on Vyvanse. I am not sure what I think of the medicine. He is on the next to lowest dose of the medicine, and we see some improvement when he takes it. It is the only thing he takes, but it completely wears off at 6pm, which is prime homework time! Not sure if this information is helpful, but I thought I would share.

My son is 8 years old and has the worse ADHD. Bless his heart he can not help it and he wishes he did not have it. He has been on Foclin, Strattera, Addrell, Risperdal,Ritalin, Depacote and many others. He is going to be starting Vyvanse tomorrow 20mg. I am hoping this will work for him. I want him to have a good time in school and not get in trouble he feels so out of place all the time, and that hurts me. As his mom I want to make him happy and healthly

My son has been on Vyvanse for ADHD and Lamictal for bipolar. Vyvanse has done wonders for him, but I haven't seen much difference with Lamictal (bipolar), even though he started only 2 months ago. If I don't thisk is working, should I switch to something else? I'm so afraid of side effects.
