My 10 year old was just diagnosted with ADHD. She doesn't listen to us. We have inhome supports but lost the worker that was helping a lot but has not been here for 3 months. She was previously diagnosed with mild mental retardation. I questioned this and this label has been removed. My husband (step father) has even harder time dealing with her. They will not give her medication until she has an eeg which is scheduled tomorrow. when they diagnosed adhd also, major depression, learning disabilities, expresive and receptive language problems and possible seizures. I have worked in the field helping mentally ill before but still struggling with my own child. I am out of work myself for anxiety and depression. I need help. Any advice or just support. Would like a penpale who can relate.

I have a 9yr old daughter with adhd. She was diagnosed at the age of 6 and has been on several meds. She doesn't have severe learning disabilities but we have struggled to find meds to help her focus on her schoolwork. She has a lot of trouble following through with all directions on a test! She also has been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. She gets frustrated very easily! She was having tantrums but that has subsided with her current meds. The first thing you need to do is find a pyschiatrist who will work with you and is willing to change meds if different combinations don't work. I hate having my daughter take meds but she drives us totally insane without meds! She would never get the A's and B's off medication. Second, does your child have an IEP plan for their education? My daughter has a resource teacher who comes into her classroom to assist her and make sure that she understands what the teacher is saying. Last year, I got very frustrated when my daughter was bringing home papers with bad grades for not following directions! My daughter is very intelligent but her mind races and she rushes through her work! I don't understand why they are doing an EEG? I did request an EKG and blood tests to be done recently through our new doctor. I will be glad to keep in contact with you! I try to do as much research on ADHD to stay up to date on the latest meds and treatments!

I am the mother of twin 3 year old boys, one of which was diagnosed autistic with ADHD. I still question the diagnosis of autism, since the neurophyscologist has said that he shows more signs of ADHD and expresive receptive language disorder. He is defiant and often refuses to follow along with any activity. He is a very sweet and loving boy when he wants to be. I know what you are going through. I am going through it too. The seizures also, since his vacination at 1yr old. Every time they get vacinations within 3 day they both have seizures. If you need someone to talk to, you can email me.

Please take your child to the nearest Intergrative physician for testing. We use Dr Stephanie Cave in Baton Rouge La.She has changed our child's life.Turns out our son had a reaction to a vacination he was given and became hyper. She took him off of foods he was allergic to and began chelating him to remove metals from his body.He is a different child now and continues to make great improvements. He is in first grade and doing fine.

My son is 11 diognosed when he was 3. sometimes days are hard for me to. some times medication isn't the awnser but in my case it is . when he is not on his meds he's climbing the walls. i used to think that if he didn't take something I was going to have to. it gets better with behavior management also. charts charts and more charts. some times i wish i had a tape recorder. i also work in home care for an 11 yr old with autism. be patient

hi.ive got a 5 year old who has this ODD.im just finding out more about it.
she just started school last september and the teachers are finding it hard to deal with her.she has always been very strongwilled.
my brother has authism and is severly handicapped so i know how hard it is dealing with athese special needs.
my little one just wont listen and really thinks she is in control of everything.i do have rules and they dont affect her she looks atr punishments in a positve way which can bre good thing.
i tgake away toys and stop her playing with friends and ground her as part of her punishment.
when she is in one of moods is all i can call it nobody has control over her,she is not sfraid of anybody not her teacher, princable or police.i dont want her to be afraid anyone.im a singlemum.her dad lives in another country he does come and visit when he can.
i have her on fish oils.i dont want her on heavy medication.

some days i get so angry im afraid i going to hit or really hurt her.i know children push bounderies.i dont want to go through what my parents went through with my brother.my little girl has got a lot of his way.
its hard been a mum to demanding children.my doctor thinks nothing is wrong.but her teachers do.ive read a few books on positve parenting and it always backfires on me me.ive banned a lot of food from her diet.
i hope everything works out for you and your son

Hi, as far as the just not listening and my son with ADHD sounds about right. I didn't used to think my son heard what we would ask or tell him but he would say it back to us word for word. He was written up on the bus in K and flooded the sinks in first grade! A few people tried telling me that he was autistic and I have a friend that has a child autistic she said NO WAY there are two different signs here go somewhere else. He didn't listen to us, to teachers, or even to strangers, it seemed that he had no respect. My son is in speech class, and an occupational therapist for fine and gross motor skills helps him during school hrs. He was in a special reading group as well but since he has been on Concerta tested out of the reading group. I was told that I had ADD when I was younger and wouldn't doubt it now either perhaps these symptoms are genetic. I have a total of 4 children and am going to college for LPN certification and a diploma in Gerontology so we have a lot going on! I would check with the school and see if there arent any special aides there. Once I made my sons school aware of things they started being more active although it also depends on the teacher as well. Good luch I would stay away from Ritilan jmo from when I was younger and a friends son that they tried it. Of course every child is different. I wish you and your family the best of luck
