Hi Dianna, I think "mild" is so subjective. I do know for a fact that therapy and with patience, really do indeed decrease the severity...to what degree...only time will tell, but I do know it takes awhile. The owner of my son's ABA school started the school because of their son, and he has shown improvements. He was severe with mental retardation, and he made his first progress by going to the store alone...admittedly he forgot to check both sides of the street, but he got there and got back, so it's the first step. Thereapy really helps, so hang in there as I am trying to hang in there with mine.

I don't know where to draw the exact lines of mild, severe, and moderate autism. I do know that as a therapist I've seen huge improvements with the kids I work with. I've seen nontalkers begin to talk and many stims moderate and nearly disappear. I've seen independence and social skills grow. Keep hanging in there.
