My 17 year old son was diagnosed with Aspergers/moderate Autism in the first grade, couldn't start school until he was 7, as he was mute until almost 6 yrs of age. My husband left right before his diagnosis, yet refuses to believe there is a problem. Our son has been using an Alpha Smart to write since grade school and has exhibited behavioral and social difficulties over the years. Athough he bright and very mathematical. My ex husband is trying to lower his financial obligation to our son though the expense continues to grow. We had to move outside his accustomed school district and now it costs $60+ per week to get him to school as not to disrupt his education, which is going great. However, I have no money for lawyers as I can barely afford to get the basic necessities of everyday life. I do not want to agree to the support modification after finding that my ex husband now makes 3 times the amount he made when the first support order was issued. Are there any Attorney advocates out there who might be able to help? I am in Eastern Tennessee, the support order is in Alabama.

There are definitely organizations open to you. I'd start by looking into local support groups for autistic children. Also, there are lots of divorced parent groups. In the meantime, I would suggest you start looking into centers that are closer to you. I understand that it is hard to move a child from their comfort zone, but there have been a lot of centers opening in the past few years. I'm sure there is a closer school that would provide the same quality of service.
