I am tryign to determine what exactly is going on with my almost 3 year old son. It is so difficult to decide what is best for him. Whether you should put him in a regular school or a school for children with special needs. Not to mention actually determining what is going on with him. When you are having to wait 6 months to get into a doctor, what are you supposed to do with your child in the mean time? I am having major problems with understanding what I am supposed to do that is going to help him. Anybody else having the same problems that I am? I need lots of advice! Jennifer

just keep your chin up, it took us 8 months to get al the doctors to dx my 2 1/2 year old son, is on the moderate side, keep working with them and reinforcing that you are the voice for you child, and you can't take no for an answer also when you do get in too the doctor don't leave the appointment until you have all the facts, ask everything you can think of,and make sure you leave with a autisic packet...... also a psy,is your best bet to get dx faster, and social security will be approved faster, if you have a childrens hospital in your area, make sure to get a referral from peds doctor, for a developmental peds doctor, even it you have to leave you own area,, good luck it you need to talk e-mail me [email protected]

Call up your local school district and have your son evaluated by the school and they will start early intervention (which is what saved our son!!!) started. You don't need him medically evaluated unless you want some free services which are available. You can do this later when the six months are up. Get your boy evaluated ASAP.

All the best to you!

i totally understand your dilemma. it took 8 years to get my oldest son diagnosed, he has asberger syndrome ( a lesser degree of autism). i don't know what state you live in, or what degree your child has.but from experience with my younger child, he is 3 also doctors are hesitant to label them at such an early age.we put them both in regular school and are in contact with the child study team.they can be a help and get you an apointment sooner sometimes. we also belong to a support group, and it helps.good luck and remember to keep fighting for your child to get them all the help they will need.feel free to mail me at [email protected]

Thank you so much everyone! I really appreciate that you took the time to offer me advice. As a parent, you just want to help your child immediately. You know that something is wrong and are then forced to wait out this painful period where you just have to watch your baby suffer and know that there is nothing you can do to help, or if there is you don't know what. So, anyway, thank you all very much!

Jack's story....

After the 12 mos. vaccines my son gradually slipped into autism. He was head-banging, hand-flapping, twirling, lost speech, lost eye contact and he just withdrew.

Now two years later.... no head-banging, no twirling, no flapping, has eye contact and is starting to verbalize again. And... he has Down Syndrome to boot. :) Yes... even kids with DS get autism. Actually they get it at a higher rate.

What helped him? First I give God praise.... our son wouldn't be here without Him and we prayed and I believe He guided us. Second... supplements. Especially cod liver oil. I recommend Green Pastures CLO with the X factor. Check out Dr. Mary Megson's work on the web. http://www.diet-studies.com/megson.html Our Jack healed gradually... but he is healing. I actually had to make myself GET USED TO him not twirling everything any more!

Also check out Dr. Amy Yasko's work. www.holistichealth.com

We give Jack alot of supps - cod liver oil, probiotic, magnesium citrate, tart cherry and recently we added cilantro. He takes some other things too but each child is unique. It helps to find a good naturopathic MD or chiropractor. Don't use supps until you research things for yourself. Cilantro for example...should possibly not be used until some other detox has been done.

Don't give up. There is hope! And... I will be frank here.... many mainstream doctors know squat about how to heal autism. Don't let that throw you. There are people who do know how to help. God bless you! Love, Jack's Mom :) [email protected]
