Ok, I realize that some of you have probably experienced this anxiety of the autistic children who are high functioning and them going to public school. I know you worry about bullies, fights on the school bus, abuse and all sorts of things where public schools are concerned. I know some of you saw the movie Bully and wondered "will this be my child". Well, I do believe it like minded parents stay on top of the school system and the people who come in contact with the disabled child, you might be able to escape some of that anxiety. I found that popping up at the school unannounced works real well. I also find that keeping in touch with principals, asst principals, bus drivers, school bus aides and all others is helpful as well. But then there are those times when the bottom falls out like now when everybody is new and all the old staff either retires, leaves for another job or takes another position out of state....for whatever reason, we find that we must start all over and both the twins will be in sixth grade and I am just terrified. I have no idea what to expect but sure would appreciate those of you who have had the public school experience.
