Dear fellow parents,
I was wondering- how to you tell if your child is autistic? My two year(3mo) old daughter doesn't talk at all. She never did. All she says is mmammma, dadda. Those are the only two words in her vocab. I think she had a big change when I brought home her sister at around eighteen mo old. She didn't eat for two days, she was really depressed. I talked to her doc. and he says she's got delayed speech. Her hearing is fine. Help or advice is much needed.THX!

Dear Wendy,
The only thing her dr. says is she must have delayed speech. All that has been done for her so far is a hearing test. Her next step is going to a speech therapist...Do you think she has autism??

Hello Rayna, You should also note that ASD (Autism) causes social dysfunction, affects imagination play. Does she understand what is being said to her like, "take your dishes to the kitchen". My son Waylon was on the severer end of ASD when he was 2 and had all of these problems. He also Stimmed quite a bit and still does. You need to read more on ASD yourself. Once you no more about it you will be able to tell and get the help she needs.

She understands what I tell her just fine, she just doesn't answer or talk. She also plays with her learning toys all the time, books, blocks, wooden toys, ect. What is stimmed??

Hi Rayna, stimming is self stimmulating, such as rocking back and forth, flapping the hands, linning up things, spinning herself or objects, etc...odd behaviors. She plays with toys, but does she plays with the toy appropraitely, and does she plays with other kids? There are so many factors that must be met before she is labeled with autism. She may not have autism but could have APRAXIA, meaning that she understands everything that is said, but have difficult times in formulating and expressing what she wants to say. If you google in autism on the website, there are site that have lists of behavior and criteria that it stated if she meets 1 or 2 of the criteria so on and so forth, she could have autism. That's what I did and it help me in diagnosing my son before I took him tested with the developmental pediatric.

My daughter plays right with the toys, she knows how to press the buttons for off and on, pulling the lever to make the spinner spin, ect. I just would like to thank you all for the advice and kind words of encouragement. I think my kid will talk when she is good and ready.
