I dont wish to insult anyone, not having an autistic child myself. I am currently studying to become a teacher and for my dissertation I am looking into what support families with autistic children recieve, whether it be with a diagnosis or schooling (Each stage of their child's development.) I have recently talked with two families with autistic children, and both a which had a parent as a teacher. Each family expressed the difficulties they had obtaining any help and support, and if it wasn't because of their professional knowledge they would of found it extreamly difficult. I wanted to research whether this is a common problem which other families have experience. I would be greatful of any response. Many thanks Becky ↑

I would like to other parents of autistic parents about some communication problems with daughter and I am so very frustrated. the only response is usually from some movie and sometimes is not fitting maybe someone can help with what they do in these situations. (daughter 5) ↑
the last response was yes from brenda and I just wondered what that meant. Was it for someone other than me? ↑
Hi My son just turned 5 and is on the spectrum and high functioning. It has been difficult for me to decide in placing him mainstream or not. He now attends a regular private school and a public ECI in the afternoon. He speaks with intent but his language is still behind. He understand far more than he can express. An advice? ↑
my son is 2 years old and has brain damage, and also is being tested by a child psycologist for autisum in may. From what we have read and seen our son has almost all of the traits. What are some of the first things you noticed with your children?
I am going crazy ↑ |
hi a message to gerimom, i have two children that have autism they are six and five ↑
lisa do you have the same frustration with communication? What do you use? signing or picture exchange or scheduling things. Just curious how others get through the terrible 5's with these special needs children. Although she goes to school she works on different level there than at home(or maybe I do, I'm not sure.). she is so beautiful and sweet but sometimes her meltdowns are so much especially since she doesn't seem to be able to reason right now or especially while the meltdown is going on. Hope to hear some response soon. thanks ↑
i have 6 year old girl with autism recently toilet trained but now having problems with soiling anybody had similar problems ' ↑
I just 'stumbled' across this site and thought I would give it a try
I have 2 boys aged 9 and 7, both diagnosed with autism
I am interested in contacting other families (whether multiple children or not have been diagnosed), I would like to get some ideas on how to cope with the ongoing struggle, any ideas on how to move the kids forward
also, I am a full time working mom, so I would like to hear from parents on how they keep everything together ↑ |
hi both my children have problems with speaking and social skills, but they have progressed no end in the last year i have used picture exchange and schedules and pecs , this method realy works. The kidsstill have tantrums but not as many also at school they use the T.E.A.C.H method ↑
this is for Lisa - what is the T.E.A.C.H method
both my boys do very well at school (go figure!) but I think it is because of they have much more rigid schools, they know what is expected; at home - it's a zoo where all the animals are out of the cages... ↑ |
Does anyone know of a parent driven chat room on how to best deal with PDD-Nos diagnosis of ones child? ↑
This reply is for Becky who was looking for information on support for families with an autism diagnosis. I would be happy to tell you my story if you are still interested. ↑

Hi Kady , i live in the UK the teach method was developed in North Caroliner Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communcation Handicapped children (T.E.A.C.C.H) the main things that it is the way the enviroment is , there are clear visuel boundries segmentig the space into reognisable parts to help the children understand what they are expected to do in each area.then they have the schedule which visually tells them what is occuring using either objects, photos, pictures, words. All the tasks are presented visually and it lets them know when they have finished what is happening next. ↑

Hi! I have two beautiful little boys aged 4 & 6 who are both Autistic. Trying to decide if we should have a third child at the moment but terrified of the risks so we probably won't. Would love to talk to other parents with multiple Autistic children or anyone else who wants to have a chat. My hubby especially would like to hear from some Dads and get a support system going. Cheers, Wendy Email: dsalvant@chariot.net.au ↑
