Linda I can t believe that I found this website and read your message. I have a 16 yr old son who was recently diagnosed as well. I seems to me most people become aware so much sooner that there child is disabled and I feel like I should have done something sooner. I would love to hear from u. My email is BKelly174@aol.com I know we are not alone although it seems that way

Hi, my son is 7 with severe autism. Although he has made great leaps and bounds in the last two years, I am having great trouble teaching him how to blow his nose. Can anyone suggest an avenue to take?

Hello I too feel like I am on an island! I read the reply of the person with two autistic children who were potty trained for 1 but not 2.Welcome to my world.!My son is 5 and I wonder sometimes whenand if that glorious day will come when I am no longer cleaning up a stinky mess?.Mys on likes to slide and decorate his bedroom walls with it. It is not a pleasant thing to do and you pray no one comes to the door during or after an incident. Thanks! Email me I would love to talk to another parent who knows what I am talking about.Unless you live with an autistic child you have no idea! Rrobertgrand@aol.com

In response to suzanne. My son has the 1 but not 2 problem also. I am fortunate in the fact there has only been a few smearing instances. The bad part is that they happened at school. He has made great progress in the last couple of years with blending in with other classmates. My wife and I are afraid that if this keeps up, the progress he has made will regress. We are desparate for an answer.

Hi Amanda, I'm new to this site, not sure how to get your actual email address but my son was also born premature. He was my only surviving triplet born at 23 weeks old. He weighed only 1.7 pounds and also has a long medical history. He is 23 months old and was diagnosed with autism less than a month ago. He was also encourage to see a specialist by his therapists that work with him. When he was born, he stayed at the NICU for four months. He's always been very active and never would seem content or sit still. He does babble, and has a couple of words. He has a hard time with sleep. He recently started taking naps. Nights are still rough. If you would like to chat please email me. GRICHAR9@twcny.rr.com Thank you

I am in need for some advice from a mother who also has an older child with autistic disabilities. His problems really surfaced when he was about 12. He was no longer able to keep or make friends and school was no longer a place he wanted to go. I knew that James had some difficulties with relationships and had been to a number of therapists in hopes of helping him. No one seemed to be helping and his father and I saw him as just being difficult. It seemed that no matter how we tried we could not get him to school on time, He was always tired or not feeling well when he was to go to school. Needless to say this caused him many difficulties at school. Not to mention the arguments that took place at home.

About 4 years ago I took him to see a Dr. that prescribed a number of medications over the period of 2 years but nothing seemed to help. He was given med's to help him become more flexible and anti depressants to help with his depressed moods. In my opinion he had little to no improvement. It may have become worse. This year because I wanted to rule out asleep disorder I took him for a sleep test. They found he wasn't sleeping normally. The DR. removed his adenoids and tonsils. I was delighted that there was finally something we could do to help him. Unfortunately he had missed so much school that his grades suffered. Now he does not want to go because he can not pass for the year and he has a hard time leaving the house " because people don't like him". I am at a loss for what to do. He is near tears at the school dilemma and I worry about setting him off with an episode that has him smacking and punching himself out of frustration. Any advise it welcomed as I don t know what to do at this point. Thank you in advance for your help.

I have a five year old son, and autistic. I feel we (as parents of autistic children) could get together in some way and talk, we could come to understand and compare the action of our children. This would not only be a educational thing, it would be a way of releaving some anxiety and stress. We may could come to understand why our children do the things they do, and get so upset about certain things. I would love to talk with someone else who is going through what I am.
