hi, my name is liz, am 27years old, i was abused as a child by my uncle and the sad part is that when i told my mother, she did nothing, i promise myself that when i had kids i would show them love and make sure they never experience the bad things i did, had my fist son in 2004 and everything was perfect, after his MMR shots had a high fever and started having seizures, then came the diagnosis of autism, my life came to hault that day, nothing make me happy anymore, i have a 2yr old son and i had 19 months of horror watching him, looking for signs, until he started pointing, responding to him name and then talkig, now i am pregnant again and am due i september, my husband and i only planned to have 2kids but when we found out i was pregnant it was bitter sweet, i am so depressed and today was one of my bad days, my son with autism eats everthing from wall paper to sand, plastic bags, crayons, grass and is still in dipers and is out of control, he is violent and i know he means no harm, he is so cute and when he smiles my heart melts, he has 0 speech, he is getting all the services u can think of but he has made no improvements,i have lost faith in God and i just need to know that there are people out there experiencing similar things, i need someone to talk to.

I am writing you this letter in the hopes of some desperate assistance in Nevada. I have a young Autistic adult son,
19yrs old, ( Vincent Ortiz ). I understand the dilema you are going thru.
You are not alone. I will be happy to talk to you any time, if anything
just to listen and support each other.
I will make this brief and to the point.
I am a single mom working many
hrs 7 days a week, savings is now gone in an attempt to pay
on my own for caregivers.
My son has severe "episodes" at which he can bite/scratch/pull hair or
all of the above. These behaviors all began over the last couple of
years and are progressively getting worse. He is 5 foot 10 185 pounds.
I am 5 foot 2. I can not restrain him when he attacks.
I desperately need HELP now.
There are NO group homes or facilities who take children and/or young
adults w/ Autism here in Nevada. The state treats Autism like it is a dirty word.
I am in fear for the safety of myself and my daughter as we have been
attacked a cpl times now without a caregiver here full time.
I was thinking there are several folks in the same dilema as myself
here in Nevada as well as across the country..
I would like to know if you could :
1.) assist with helping me open a
RANCH FOR AUTISM here in Nevada. Pahrump still has land low
priced and it's far enough out that folks who don't understand Autism
will feel comfy, yet it is close enough for medical needs.
I know exactly what these children need to make their life
complete and busy with a scheduled routine and space to roam.
I know that I could sucessfully provide the care and know how to
make it a wonderful structured environment for the children.

For instance:
an equestrian area
music program
arts n crafts
a green house
pool / spa
trampoline
swings
merry-go-round
sand box
walking paths

2.) help / steer / assist me w/ getting some families
together that are looking for longterm placement for their
young adults where they will be loved and cared for as if we were there
ourselves. Home-like environment with plenty of activities to keep them
busy and fulfilled. We need 20 committed families that have a young adult
who needs the special care and guidance the Ranch for Autism will provide.
We all know as parents we can not be there forever for our loved ones.
I know I do not want my son to be institutionalized when I can't be there
for him any longer. Of course our children can have visits ( home or on site)
anytime. You may have the connections, knowledge to get this request
completed. You may know someone with acreage ( we need approx. 50 acres )
that needs a tax write-off, or a family member willing to donate.
Maybe help get a fundraiser, some attorney's, doctors, wealthy
folks. Get the community involved! I have faith in you. Together we can pull
all resources and do this.
I currently have an investor to meet/match up to $800K, which is about
1/3 of what we need to reach our goals.
Please contact me with any contacts / ideas that you may have.
God Bless!

Hi. I work in a school district, as a special-education paraprofessional. I have been blessed to care for and help many different children of various ages, with a variety of challenges. I recently listened to / watched a woman share her incredible story of raising a son with autism. It touched me deeply. Her son was healed, a few years back, and continues to improve in his schooling. I ordered her book and found so much hope in her experience. Hope that applies to everyone, including families with autism but not limited to only autism. My heart goes out to all. If anyone is interested in the details of the book and the radio / t.v. program, please e-mail me at [email protected]. (Since it is my understanding that some things cannot be posted.) With excitement, encouragement, and heart-felt appreciation and compassion to every family touched by especially autism...There IS Hope.

Hi everyone... please take a look at this article http://www.shanghaidaily.com/sp/article/20
09/200909/20090901/article_412319.htm
...
I'm studying Chinese Medicine in China and wanted to share this because I've really seen them do some amazing things for autistic children. Please spread the word because I've always felt that less is more.. especially when healing the human body.. This technique is so gentle that you can safely use it at home for your children. And being able to receive healing at home I think really helps the child feel a lot safer and more comfortable. This technique works by recircuiting your energy pathways as well as raising your qi levels so that the entire body starts to receive nutrients in all the right places so that it can jump start the body's self healing mechanism. Thanks for your time and feel free to email me if you have any questions. Live. Laugh. Love.

Sorry to hear about your stress, Liz, but hang in there. What do your son's service support people advise you to do in the home to redirect the eating everything behavior? Did you seek the advice of an experienced medical physician or specialist who also works with other children with disabilities? Did your physician rule out that he is craving these other items due to a lack of something in his diet? Did you research and find out about the above disorder in which children eat everything? Is your son eating enough textured foods to possibly satisfy the sensory-related issue (grahm crackers and toast for crunchiness)? Did you look into Applied Behavioral Analysis? Can you start out with one goal to teach him the rule: Not a food for mouth but this is and then offer him a small fish cracker? Repetition is the key and persistence with team work. Your son may need a teether toy to satisfy his oral needs and when you remove a crayon or his preferred item for his mouth, immediately replace it with a teether or a grahm cracker or a fish cracker. If your son has a lot of energy, can you take him for walks on teh hour or to the swing or give him some sort of release for his energy? Would a rocking chair soothe and calm him down which still provides a form of movement? Hey! No speech or words he uses? Try with holding his drink momentarily by saying: say cup or water or milk (drink too difficult to repeat) and only require that he say the c sound no tthe word and immediately praise him for saying a close approximation of the word later shaping it down the road when he is older. Drinks, food, and highly preferred toys or items will help bring about speech if the items are out of his reach and you control it to use as a teaching tool for asking behaviors....hope this helps. Stay proactive and search for the answers while carefully observing his behaviors...

hi rabbit, i'm gonna tell you one thing DONT GIVE UP.sometimes you feel you've done everything but everything is not enough to save your child.your son is still young you can do more...its only the begining go with it in the hope that he will be better...i have a 4years son with autism when he was 2 like yours no speech.now he can ask for things like food,pee...etc.each child is different and each autistic child is different...my son use to bang his head on the wall i thought his brain will come out..tried everything to stop him but the only way to stop him was by ignoring him and get out of the room,it worked like a charm...it took me 2years to get him out of diapers...sometimes i cry , i fight with my husband,i want to kick people who look at him like he's from other planet,i feel depressed but i keep going because even if the improvemets are so little it means there will be more...now he goes to preschool ...i thought the teacher will call me in the first day to take him but now a week has gone by and he's doing ok..done last thing,DON'T YOU EVER STOP TALKING TO HIM EXPLAINING ,PLAYING,KISSING,LOVING and GOOD LUCK
