Do you find that it is best to feed from both breast sduring a feeding, or just one? I am pregnant with my second baby now, and remembering my breastfeeding experience with my first. After awhile I found that it was easier to feed from one breast per session. But... I also lost my milk at about 6 months, (largly contributed by my work schedule, and inability to pump at work). What do you other moms do?

it always depends on how hungry my son was, when he was a newborn i would fed from one side, burp him, then feed from the other side. but as he got older and more "busy" he only had the patience to eat on one side. i think it varies from baby to baby.

when i did breatfeed, if Anika fed from both, great...if she was only hungry for one side then i'd feed her the other side next time, or i'd pump the other side. alot of times, she only wanted the one side, and i'd feed her on one side and pump at the same time on the other side....it was quite the balancing act!! LOL

hi there, i have a little girl who's 10months old and i'm still breast feeding, and i only feed her on one side and the next feed i feed her on the other side. i believe this way the milk is richer and it gives the other time to fill back up, but i'd chack with your doc about braestfeeding whilst prega's as my sister in law actually lost her baby whilst doing what your doing, and they tols her it was from the muscles contracting in her stomache that caused it when she breast fed, so please ask your doc if it's still ok to breastfeed whilst prega's, hope this helps:) and good luck:)

My daughter only nurses from one side per feeding. I've offered her both before but she never eats from it really.

In the hospital when I had no idea what to do they said it is better to do 15 minutes on each. Otherwise there might me a chance one breast will be bigger than the other.

It is better to feed from both the breast not only there is a difference in size of the breast but also it affects the baby as the size of the baby's head changes one side of the head comes protuding, so it affects overall the shape of its head.I had these same experience for my elder son.

there are many women that only nurse using one of their breasts. it will not change the shape of the babys head. i don't know where Mrs.Siny Raj is getting her information but it is wrong. as babies get older they get more effecient at nursing so they don't always need the second breast. you can always just offer the breast that didn't get used the next feeding. it isn't a big deal.

well u might be right Melissa ,my in-laws used to tell me that since i had fed my son with only one breast,as when feeding his head is kept only in one position there is slightly protuding over his head.I too thought the same.

She had me worried my baby's head would become shaped funny! - Well not quite, I'm not naive, but someone else could have believed her. Thanks for clearing that up Melissa. I wish she'd stop posting when she's no idea what she's talking about.

Yep. I would usually let my kids empty both, at least partially. If I didn't have time or they were fidgeting I would nurse 10 or 15 minutes per side then pump the rest.
