I just gave birth this last sunday. I want to breast feed my infant and am continuing to try. However, on Monday I came down with the flu (one day after giving birth). The doctor put me on cold meds, motrin for the swelling, medication for anemia, and robitussin to help with the coughing on top of an antibiotic and my normal prenatal vitamins. This has I think inhibited my milk production. At the hospital the baby did not take enough from me after the first day so the nurses started to supplement with formula out of a bottle. Because it took until Friday for my milk to come in, I have been pumping every two hours, fighting to feed him every four, and supplementing with formula and breast milk bottles after he tries to breast feed for an hour. He continually pulls away and it is a constant struggle to get him to latch on. When he does, he will often break the latch after a few seconds no matter how hard I try to hold him there. He takes the bottle well and eats a lot. He does get gassy at night though. I am very frustrated and want him to be able to take from me and only me. I don't want to supplement. I am still only producing about two ounces each time I pump. He takes between 3 - 4 ounces every four hours beyond what he gets from me. Please help...any advice would be appreciated. ↓
