| I had a reduction 12 years ago and breastfed my first daughter. I had a 75% supply so I did supplement a little. Then I got pregnant again when she was just 4 months old and stopped nursing around that time. With this baby I plan to breastfeed more and use herbs to see if I can get my supply up. I found a great website: www.bfar.org check it out - there's lots of info. Also, Jill and Atomic Snowflake also have experience with this. ↑ |
Yeah, I breasfed 10 years after my reduction. I took Fenugreek supplements to boost my milk supply. I didn't have any problems at all. My midwife told me that I'd never manage, but in the end I did.
You just have to give it a go and see how you get on. Don't supplement with formula because they get the taste for it and don't want to give it up. Not being able to pump very much doesn't mean that you're not producing - it could just mean that your pumping technique isn't that good. Babies are better at extracting milk from breasts than pumps.
The bfar.org website is very good.
Most breast reductions these days don't completely sever the milk ducts like the old technique used to. Like I said, I had my op in 1992 and I was still okay.
The only bad thing that I have to say about pregnancy is that my damn boobs have now grown back! If I hadn't had the reduction I don't know what size they'd be now!!!! Crazy! I can't get rid of the damn things! *LOL* ↑ |
