This isn't about breastfeeding, but one day while reading the posts on here I saw the name Dr. Sears mentioned a few times. I decided to research his philosophy and I have to tell you - his ideas are amazing. I've been having trouble with my 9 month old and getting her to sleep enough hours in a day. I applied his strategies earlier this week and the results have been fantastic. She's napping at regular times (10 and 4) and for about 2 hours each nap. And last night she slept through the night for the first time in forever!

So I don't know who dropped his name, but thank you sooooo much. I had been trying the modified Ferber method, but it just wasn't comfortable to me or my husband, and we really didn't know any other methods. For those of you who are interested, I found the info on askdrsears.com

Melissa and I were discussing Dr. Sears. That may have been where you saw it. I agree with you, his ideas are amazing. I really like his strategies and advice. I hope what your doing continues to work for you. Good luck!

Dr. Sears is one of the leading ped. in the US. he is awesome! he has 2 sons and they are also doc. his wife is a RN. so they keep it all in the family. lol. i absolutly LOVE him. the thing i like best is that he encourages us to use our instinct instead of thinking that we are just parnoid like other doctors.

It's funny because I don't know that I'm really doing anything drastically different, but my whole attitude is different. I feel more relaxed about her sleeping, and I think I'm more realistic about what it takes to get a baby to go to sleep and stay asleep. For some reason I just thought that by 9 months it shouldn't be a problem anymore lol!

And btw - she slept 10 hours straight last night! So thank you Lindsay and Melissa! Now I'll read what he has to say about breastfeeding since I have another one on the way!

Wow - so last night Sophie went down around 8:30. She woke up at 3:30 and was hungry (she didn't eat her dinner so that was to be expected) and after eating went back to sleep until 7:30. Then back down for nap at 10 again. I'm so excited - just had to share my joy and relief!!!

I'm afraid this might be too good to be true! She slept almost 12 hours last nigt! I heard her cry once or twice, but only for a second or two and then she went right back to sleep.

Melissa - does your son wake up and eat, or does he go right back to sleep once you go in?

My five month old is up 2 or three times a night in a ten hour span. We co-sleep with her though so it doesn't bother me too much. I'm sure we'll regret the co-sleeping later on, but for now we're enjoying it. :)

well he is cutting his molars right now, so he wakes up everytime his tyenol or motrin wears off. but i do get up and nurse him back to sleep. i wish we could still cosleep but our bed isn't big enough anymore. i did do that when he was a newborn and it was sooooo nice. i didn't have to get up at all.

Whenever Sophie is sick we have her sleep with us, but neither my husband (who is 6'7" and 300 pounds) or me ever sleep real well with her in the bed with us. I do take naps with her though, and I love that. She's so snuggly! And yeah - when she's teething she never sleeps through the night. Lindsay - your baby might be teething too!

I hope you girls are still here when I have my next baby (in June). I breastfed Sophie for about 4 months, but I had a very difficult time because I had a breast reduction about 12 years ago. So anyway - it will be great to have support when I try again:)
