Who is there? My daughter is 14 months old and still nurses 8-12 times daily (she sleeps all night though).

hi others may not agree with me but it sounds like your baby is using you as a dummy / pacifier
does she just snack of is she having full feeds...thats alot of feeding...im assuming she eats solids as well?
maybe start saying no occassionally distract her with a piece of apple or some other hard piece of food
good luck

why would she need to do that marija? my son does the same thing and is almost 14 months also. there is no such thing as a baby using a mom as a pacifier, moms are the original pacifier. what do u think they used before they were invented. anyway, i say enjoy it while it lasts. my little guy is into that "he can do it all by himself" stage already and nursing is the only time he actually lets me hold him and cuddle.
nursing during this time of the year(it is cold and flu season) is good also, she is still getting all those good antibodies. also new studies have found that the amount of antibodies in breastmilk go up after 1 yr of age. anyways just wanted to say good job momma for nursing this long and keep up the good work! it is nice to hear another mom that is still nursing.

These are all full feeds, that can last from 10 mins. up to 30 mins., depends on her. She just started solids a month ago (she has a oral/food aversion due to severe reflux, stomach surgery, ulcers, sensory issues, etc...) and still gets most of her nutrician from me. If I give her anything that is not pureeded, she will choke, she cannot swallow it.
I do not want to wean her, that is not what the post is about, Marija, I think you mis-understood. Plus the WHO (World Health Org.) recommends nursing for a min. of 2 years.
I plan on letting her self-wean, so if she's 2 when she weans, that is fine, if she is 4 when she weans, that is fine also.

Melissa - Great Job to you also & love talking to other mama's that are nursing past the norm of 1 year!!! I never understood the abrupt weaning cycle that has been drilled into societies head of when they are 11 months and 29 days old, breastfeeding is ok, but the next day - OMG they cannot have it anymore.....lol. I love the cuddle time also, but my daughter is a little diffrent, if I would let her, she would be on boobie ALL day long, it's her favorite activity - LOL!!!

it is really nice to talk to someone who agrees with what you are doing. i have stopped talking to a few family members because they just won't drop the whole weaning subject. i even had one of my cousins(he's a guy of course) say well isn't it considered child abuse to nurse after 1 yr? some people are so ignorant sometimes!!!!

Yes they are!!! I am lucky, my daughter looks like she is around 8-9 months old, so out in public, I still get the stares, but not the older child nursing stares that I have seen my sister get (she is still nursing her 16 month old). We have been lucky with family, we play the don't ask, don't tell game and it works.
Some of our friends are dumb-founded by it and don't get it (the childless ones that like to give child rearing advice) they don't get the point of nursing either right now, one said it's just easier to buy formula......OK, got to the store, go to baby section, get can of powdered cows milk, spend $25.00 on a can (that's for standard formula, not soy and not hypoallerginic if they are allergic to both soy and dairy like my daughter is - that formula is outragious in price and comes script only), sterialize bottles, make the bottles, feed the baby, clean up - or - lift shirt, unlatch bra, stick baby on, switch sides, no clean up (other then a wipeing off babies chin if they are a messy nurser). Plus, you can never forget your boobs at home (LOL - with my Mommy Mush Brain, my daughter would have starved).
I have never understood the 1 year cut off either....just the way my brain works though. So glad to find another like minded mama out there!!!!

babygirl
i thought you were asking if that is considered a lot.. thanks you did answer the question needed and that was if she was eating solids..as she is not eating the same amount as a child who doesnt have your baby's afflictions.
I wasnt suggesting you wean your baby i thought you needed a break...LOL.
My mother breastfed all 5 of us and we all self-weaned.
I will beg to differ with you melissa about a baby using their mother as a dummy / pacifier i have seen it plenty. Especially with mothers who breastfeed older kids...i didnt mean it in a nasty way. With the exception of myself.....ALL of my family and friends have breastfed thier babies until at least 18mths but alot until 2 and older, 4 off the top of my head tandem breastfed.. almost unheard of in this day and age.. strange i have such a huge amount of friends who do?
Its called cultural background... we have no social hangups about breastfeeding...and if you ask anyone of them you would get the same answer from all of them...aaaahhh they just want a comfort suck....(baby using mum as a dummy / pacifier) With me it was purely selfish reasons..but i have always admired the people who do breastfeed for long times and wont let society dictate the length of time they breastfeed
