I was wondering for those that have nursed if this treacherous first period I'm dealing with since having my baby almost 9 months ago and breastfeeding her is going to be my norm? Is it this bad just b/c it's my first post-partum or is this how they're going to be from now on? Friends have told me that periods are worse after you have a child, but it better not be like this all the time. I can barely stand it! The cramps are almost as bad as labour pains and I've never lost this much blood before. My flow is as heavy as the day after I gave birth! Also, I've never had a period with bright red blood before-is that normal? Mamal, I know you're out there with some words of wisdom, and anyone else who's experienced this let me know! Please

First things first pop those motrin girl & get that heat pad!!! Motrin is considered a L1 drug (so is the useless Tylenol j/k). L1 SAFEST:
Drug which has been taken by a large number of breastfeeding mothers without any observed increase in adverse effects in the infant. Controlled studies in breastfeeding women fail to demonstrate a risk to the infant and the possibility of harm to the breastfeeding infant is remote; or the product is not orally bioavailable in an infant.

You could have put my name on the top instead of yours a few years ago. I have NEVER had such bad cramps and I swear I was wondering if I was having another child. LOL! Don't worry in the future the pain and flow will not be the same as this time BUT this time will be a dozy for sure. Mine lessened alot each time til I was 'normal' (mine has always been 7 days) again. Everything you are experiencing is completely normal. Congratulations on breastfeeding for so long already!
