I've been breastfeeding my daughter for almost 20 months... (long past the time where I would get negative comments from BF commandos saying how lazy I am) and I am ready to stop. My daughter still requires nursing in order to get to sleep and I really need to put an end to that because I am drained and I don't want to do it anymore. She has 14 teeth and I am not physically willing to continue nursing her much longer-I want my body back. She isn't the type to cry it out- she would cry for 24 hours if I let her. Without telling me how selfish and terrible I am for wanting to end this wonderful experience, please tell me any suggestions you have as to what I can do to get my little breastmilkaholic to go to bed without it.

First of all congrats on BF for this long, however I do understand the "I want my body back", I would try to change her routine, for example if you always nurse in a specific chair, avoid it, if you always nurse after bathtime, try giving her a bath in the morning, maybe read a book before bed. Is bedtime the only time you nurse? If she is still nursing during the day I would try to cut out those first and leave the bedtime nurse session for last. If she asks to nurse distract her with a game or go for a walk offer a cup of milk, maybe chocolate or strawberry milk. Maybe just a simple no, the "nummies" are sleeping. Hope this helps, good luck

Sorry, I don't have any advice for you but denise has some great suggestions. I just wanted to say not to let anyone tell you you are selfish for wanting your body to yourself. I am only 5 months in and sometimes go crazy with my little snacker, so I totally understand that feeling and congratulate you heartily on having the patience to make it that long.

I am in the same positoin as you now. My duaghter is now 26 months and her sleeping at night particulary is dependent on it. I am also drained and will be stopping in the next two weeks, from what I have been reading it should only take about 1 or 2 weeks before she settles. I am gonna give her drinks of milk in a cup during the night for the frist while, but I know that it is gonna be tough going for both of us as she does find it a great comfort. But there does come a time when you know that you have to stop. There are some really useful articles on the mom 2 mom chat.com. You should maybe check this out (as I have been) as they are good. Good luck!!
