At this point I would not count on it.
I wouldn't count on it anyways as a 100%, but breastfeeding usually delays ovulation for quite awhile depending on how strong and long you breastfeed.
Check inot learning a Natural Family Planning methods. NFP has a 99% effectiveness rate. Look up "Couple to Couple League" in your white pages, or on the internet. It's not the old rythem method that was horribly ineffective. This is something solidly proven to be extremely effective, and many doctors don't even look into it or suggest it. (I changed doctors myself when I heard about it because the doctor I had refused to look into it, telling me it didn't work and refused to look at all the studies that stated otherwise. He got insulted! lol. Maybe it scared him that I was taking control of my own body. I think he didn't like getting caught being ignorant.)
NFP doesn't put chemicals in your body or alters your body's natural functions. It is easy to learn, and just requires a woman to get to know her body better. There are absolutely no side effects.
The only 'downside' is that a couple has to refrain from sex for approximently one week out of the woman's menstrual cycle. Personally though, we haven't found this to be a downside at all. My husband is more attentive to me, and takes an active part in charting. There seems to be so much more respect and love between us then when I was on the pill. I didn't realize it then, but deep down I felt like I was trying to 'cure' our making love from some sort of disease. Now that I'm off, it doesn't feel that way anymore.
For breastfeeding moms, its a good way to tell when you start ovulating again.
I didn't ovulate for 7 months while I was breastfeeding my first! If I hadn't been familiar with NFP, we would have had no idea that those 7 months were wonderful 'freebies'! And it was really exciting when we wanted to get pregnant again, we conceived on our first try! I know her conception date! How cool is that.
So give the Couple to Couple league a call or check out their website, or do a keyword search 'creighton fertility care'. You can try 'billings method' also, I know that is a similar and also effective method based on the same facts of how our body cycles naturally.
Check it out, doesn't hurt to be well informed.
Good luck with whatever you decide is best for you, your partner, and your baby. ↑ |
