I'm still nursing my 13month old and recently started trying for baby #2. What happens to my milk if I'm still nursing when the second baby is born? Since the milk caters to the child's age and need, which child would it cater to? And would my milk go away and come back at all around the time of the birth? In all likelieness, my daughter will be weaned by the time we have a second baby, since I'm not even pregnant yet, but I'm just wondering if any knows, what if?

Mama-
Thank you so much for the excellent article. It did indeed answer my questions. I don't know if I'll be able to do it or not, but I guess it all depends on how quickly I get pregnant. I'd like to let Gabriella self wean, but I don't really want to be nursing her after she's two. So I'm hoping she'll give it up on her own before then. In your experience do most children self wean by age two?

No worries I am a mama too. The normal self-wean time is 2 - 4 yrs but some wean before and some after. My guy weaned at about 15 months, but the more I read the more I see if I was a bit more into it I should have still offered for longer. Live and learn. A lot of times when you become pregnant a toddler will refuse the breast due to the salty taste of colostrum, so don't be surprised. I would go with it and let her do what she wants, just like you are doing. Good Luck with TTC!!
