My son is a little over a month in a half. he only weighed 6 pounds at birth 18 inches long. At his last doctors visit he only weighed 7lbs. 1oz. He's not gaining any weight. My Mom said to get him checked for diabetes. Because my aunt said her daughter was a small baby like him and wouldn't pick up weight. I am really concerned.
The Doctor said to wake him up every three four hours and feed him but he just started sleeping through the night and sometimes I fall alseep and don't wake up till he does 6-7 hours later....PlusI have two toddler girls and they keep me up pretty much through out the night so now I'm supposed to wake him up even if he's not hungry..... Have any of you heard of this?? could he have diabetes.?? Or is this normal for a preemie?

P.s.He's breast and bottle fed He was also 3 weeks premature, he still fits in his preemie clothes :( Poor little guy

a baby that young should not go more than 4 or 5 hours at night without eating. you do need to wake him up if he is sleeping longer than that. was his doctor worried? is he on the same growth curve or has he dropped down below it? if he was only 6lbs at birth then he has gain over a lb. in a month.

Set an alarm! lol... I have the same problem, it's sooo tempting to just sleep through the night when he does - but I set my alarm for every 3 hours anyway. It sucks, and once I slept through it and slept for almost 5 hours... but it's only for a while. Just keep reminding yourself that it isn't forever. Soon he'll be able to decide when he wants to eat. The more you get him to eat the more he'll gain and the faster you'll be able to safely let him sleep as long as he wants.

My baby weighed 5 1/4 pounds at birth, went down to 4 1/2, and is now almost 6 pounds... at 3 weeks old! He was 5 weeks premature.
