Hi! I am a neonatal ICU nurse. Who told you to make her wait every 4 hours? Babies need fed on demand, their brains are growing too and need all the nutrition they can get. A little "baby fat" won't hurt her and as she grows taller she will thin out. Please feed her when she cries and talk to your pediatritian who can track her growth and make sure she stays on track!!! ↑
Also 6 week olds will go through "growth spurts" with breasfeeding where it seems all they want to do is eat. This increases your supply to what they need as they grow. Call where you gave birth and ask to speak to a lactation consultant. She can tell you exactly what to expect as far as feeding frequency, weight gain, etc!!! ↑
Feed on demand, I agree with Michele. My kid fed every 45 min. Every 4 hours is a bottle baby thing. ↑
Thanks, Michelle, I appreciate your educated advice; the four hour thing made no sense to me, either. ↑
Babies are meant to be different sizes and if they are content and developing normally, then they are fine at their weight--whether it is higher or lower. If your baby is healthy and fullterm, he needs to decide when to eat. (Sometimes premies or ill babies need coxing or schedules suited to their special needs). My five babies--all fullterm- ranged from 10 1/2 pound--to 18 1/2 pound at three months. Yet the doctors were convinced that they were all growing at a rate appropriate for them. P.S. My 18 1/2 pound three month old is now fifteen- years- old 6 ft. 4 and quite slender. ↑
Why would anyone allow a little baby to be hungry? On demand is what I've always done.
Unless your feeding your child bacon, you can't feed too much breastmilk-hungry babies need to be fed!!! ↑ |
I agree with these women. Feed on demand. My first daughter ate all the time and had the fattest thighs. She is now five and very tall and thin. Baby fat has nothing to do with how they will look when they are older. I now have a 3 week old who also breastfeeds, sometimes every 45 mins or so. ↑
