I am 29 weeks pregnant and trying to consider my birth control options after my little one is born since me and hubby don't want another one right away I was on the pill before hand , but had break through bleeding and other complications part of me however wants to try it again , I have thought of an IUD but have heard bad things about that , plus me and hubby would like to try for another within two years of this baby's birth. Can you still breastfeed while on the pill ? I plan to breastfeed for a maximum of a year probably less though, any suggestions to a good brand ?

I'm not too sure on this and you should probably ask a doctor, but I THINK there is a pill that is safe while breastfeeding. That's what I heard anyways, but ask your doc. he's the expert!

you are right bmes, it is the mini pill. there are quite a few different brands of it. it is just a progestron pill. it doesn't have estrogen in it. this pill doesn't effect your milk supply and isn't strong enough to get to the baby through your milk. i was on it from my 6 week appt until my son was 13months old and didn't have a problem. the only complaint that i had about it was you have to take it at the same time everyday. (most of the brands have a 3 hr. window) other than that it worked great. it also doesn't have as bad of side effects as the other pills. when you have your 6 wk check up after babe is born, i would just ask your doc about what type would be best for you. make sure and tell them that you are breastfeeding so that they can give you a kind that is safe for it. good luck and i hope that the rest of your preg. goes smoothly.

Unfortunately, my insurance didn't cover the mini-pill so I was put on the regular pill. My doc informed me that it could decrease my milk supply. I nursed my daughter until she was 18 months while on the pill. I agree with others-talk to your doctor about what is the best option for you.

You might wish to try an IUD to see if it suits you. If you don't like it then you can always have it removed.

I've been using an IUD for a few years now and it causes me no problems whatsoever.

my sis was on bc while breastfeeding. the down side was that it had a 7% failure rate and she didnt want any more babies
