Hi Tamekia
I have a book they gave me at the hospital after I had my baby
"From Tiny tot to toddler" and in there it says that by about 2 months its 6 to 8 feeds a day. But of course it depends of all the babies. Maybe you have a really good flow and she gets enough to keep her full reason why she eats less. What does her doctor say? Is she gaining weight normally?

I am not breastfeeding anymore but I remember that when she used to cry my nipple would start leaking too!!! Funny huh how nature is made

When babies cry the mother produces Oxytocin and prolactin hormones which signal the let down reflex. Looking at a photograph of the baby can have the same effect.

Hey Tamekia, I have a 4 month old too and she eats about every 3-4 hours. giving her about 5 feedings a day. The other day she only ate 3 times and I was worried. Reading in a book, they said it could be a lot of reasons why that happens. I don't think she was feeling well. She only did that for one day and now she is eating more often. How long does she eat for when she does eat? If you depress your nipple during a let down, it should help from leaking so much. : )

she feeds for about half an hour each feed... some times longer and i give her both sides.... she falls asleep on one side and then i change her bum then give her the other side coz if i only give her one side she will wake up in 10 to 15 mins hungy again.... but the doctor said she is going really well so i am not to worried.... and i give her water as well one doctor told me i should give water and another one told me not to so what should i do there??

She doesn't need water as long as you keep breastfeeding. your milk has everything she needs in it. I was confused on that one too and then i asked a lactation consultant. She said that they shouldn't need water until you start solids and then you can just give breastmilk in a cup if you don't want to give water. So basically what i'm trying to say is you don't really need to until you wean. Sorry I tend to give long responses.

I heard not to give water. Breastmilk is ALL she needs. I also heard water might give her tummy a false sense of fullness and therefor she will get hungry sooner. Breastmilk is really all they need for the first several months of life. She might just be getting enough out in a feeding to keep her satisfied until the next one. As long as she is content and growing I wouldn't worry. : )
