Hi mommies,

just had a brand new baby, need some advice on how much milk to expect when you pump. My baby suckles well but i am worried that he may not be getting enough through direct breast feeding. How can you tell if he is getting anything at all?? Appreciate any input.

Hi! Your concerns are common, I am a neonatal nurse and what we always tell moms is to go by the diapers. If he is nursing well, and wetting about 6-8 diapers a day he is doing fine. The baby will stimulate the milk much better than a pump. If he is not wetting, and seems to not be satisfied and getting dry lips, these are signs of dehydration and you should call your pediatrician. Let me know how it goes!!
