why do u want her to take formual? you can get pregnant while breastfeeding her. it won't hurt either of you. have you ever tasted the formula? i wouldn't drink it either. and be careful how much juice you give her, she shouldn't have more than 2-4 oz. of juice a day.

Malki, Maybe you should keep nursing for another month or so, till she can start on goat or cows milk? I'm in the Dental field...I would NOT give a baby juice in a bottle...have you tried a cup?The nipple and sugar combo will damage baby teeth fast! Even if the teeth are not in yet!

Its been A LONG time since I have had a baby, JMO!

Good luck!

if your daughter refuses the bottle from you it's probably because she is confused as to why she is not getting "the good stuff" from mom. I was in a similar situation with my first son. You could try getting someone other than you to give the bottle, that way she won't feel so confused. My son would not take the bottle from me then I wnet to visit my mom for a few days. He didn't mind taking it from Grandma and after the visit he was more willing to take it from me because he gave it a chance and didn't mind the taste Mind you I did go straight to milk, try if you can, esp. if you are still nursing a couple times a day and she is still getting all the excellent vitamins etc., try to avoid the formula...
also, it is possible that you could get pregnant before your period returns if you ovulate before menstration. Observe your symptoms of fertility if you can! Ask me about it if you are interested, I am a Natural family planning teacher.

Is there a certin reason you want to give her formula? you can still nurse while you are pregnant, so if that is what you're afraid of that won't be a problem, if you are just trying to wean her due to her age I would just pump and give her the breastmilk that way. With in the next month you can start introducing regular milk so don't waste the money buying expensive formula. but that is just my opinion. good luck

That is a tough call cause if you go down to breastfeeding only 1 time a day your milk will dry up in no time. That is why I suggested pumping. but if you aren't getting your period I would go to your Dr. Do you plan on breastfeeding her after she is a year? If so how long maybe you could hold off on getting pregnant until she is completely off breast milk. I understand if you don't want to wait until then but also if you haven't got a period in 11 months maybe you should speak to your Dr anyway incase there is another issue with that, but really either way if you go down to only 1 feeding a day your milk will dry up unless you pump. keep us posted!!!

wow thanks for telling me that. i did not know that if i go down to one feeding a day it will dry up i thought that as long as im nursing atleast once a day i will keep getting milk. what if i nursed her in the morning and then at night aswell will i still dry up? but i also will still have to give her milk in the mid day time so that would have to be formulla so how can i get her to take it?
and yeah i do want to breast feed her untill she is two or atleast until she is 18 months old so i cant just wait that long cause i dont want them to be too far apart in age i've only been giving her two to three feedings a day for the past month well on the 18th it will be a month so i cant just call my dr and ask her about that cause she will just tell me to wait and see

malki: I don't have any advice for giving her formula but I want to tell you that decreasing your nursings to once or twice a day, will not dry up completely as long as you continue those feeding and their is nothing wrong with you, breastfeeding suppresses ovulation many women will not get their period until they wean completely, its normal to have not gotton your period back

firewife...
thanks for that but does that mean that i will not get pregnantsince i dont have my period? im just asking cause my husband and i have been trying for a month already to get pregnant and i took a test and it came out negative

you can still ovulate even if your period hasn't come back yet. you can buy those ovulation tests and take one to see when you do and then it will be easier to get preg. you take them just like a preg. test. also if you google it then you can find tons of websites that can help you. sorry i don't have any advice on the formula thing, my son won't take it either. he just turns his nose up at it. you should talk to your daughters doc and see if you could start cow's milk. since it is only 1 month from her being 1 yr old.

Melissa's right you don't need to have a cycle in order to become prego, I conceived my son using the easy blue fertility monitor (loved it) however every woman is different breastfeeding does suppress ovulation for a time, some women will not ovulate until a month or so after weaning completely, others resume monthly ovulation while breastfeeding.. I am sorry we cannot give you a straight answer.. If you baby is only a few weeks shy of her birthday I would think it would be okay to start cows milk, I 50/50 formula and cows around 11 months, then gave straight cows milk after a few weeks (with my foster baby) And no juice in the bottle, it can lead to early childhood caries/
baby bottle decay

Well I would maybe talk to your pediatrition they could probably tell you what to do about the fomula problem. with my daughter when she was lil i pumped and mixed the formula and breastmilk and she seemed to love it. So maybe if you pump once or twice a day you can mix them and see if she will take it then. I dont know if she will want to do that then go back to the breast after you do get pregnant that would be my concern. I never dried up and my daughter is 2 yrs old and im 31 weeks pregnant and still ahve full milk so you may not even dry up your milk.

Mix your breast milk with the formula at first 1/4 to 3/4 bm then slowly change it to half and half then the full strength ? I am not sure but you can try. You might want to hold off on the pregnancy until your baby weans herself. It natures way of having our bodies more "ready" for another pregnancy.

The best thing is to have a good chat with your daughter's pediatrician as well as with your ob-gyn. I have twin girls and I nursed them both for 2 years. Their pediatrician suggested that we can start them on cow's milk around 7 months. We started them out slowly though. I began to slowly wean them off of me during the day and nurse them primarily at night. Have you tried a sip cup with her? Our daughters loved their sip cups. About getting your periods back, well, everyone is different but even though I began to pretty much only nurse them at night, it still took me a year and 4 months to get my period back. You should really talk with your ob-gyn to get some more straightforward answers rather than wondering what's going on with your body.

I would just give her milk. I started giving my son milk at around 11 months. He loves it. I put extra vitamins and even some rice in there to fill him up. I do that more at night so he has a full tummy while he's sleeping. Try it and see how she takes to it. It’s cheaper too!

You don't need to get your period back to get pregnant... Try giving her regular milk in a sippy cup...
