nevermind I looked it up and so now i wish you good luck! Sounds like alot of work but if you have the time I don't see why you wouldn't succeed!

I've read that you should tandem nurse 90% of the time, but off-set one feeding a day seperately. That way each baby gets a little alone time with you. Besides that I think the only difference is positioning, and switing the babies sides each time so you empty evenly.

I was thinking that too...the reason for me trying it is because my baby now won't even be a year by the time this one gets here...he was a bit of a SUPRISE needless to say!! :-) Most of the stories that I have read and researched delt with mom's doing this witha 2 year old and a new one. I feel it's a little more important with her still so young that I at least give it try. It will only be a few months and the she'll be able to wean to milk. Any other advice would be great...especially what to do while in the hospital??? Thanks

Oooo! I thought you were talking about twins mamheavener! lol, in that case I think that they recommend seperate feedings for the first couple weeks until breastfeeding is established with the baby. Then implementing the tandem a little later. But maybe you should talk to a lactation specialist while you're in the hospital, and see what she would recommend. As far as while you're in the hospital... you should maybe pump for a while and store up before going into the hospital, because even though you are already lactating after giving birth you'll start producing colostrum again, and the baby should probably eat that exclusivly for the first couple days. Since I've never breastfed though, this is all kind of educated guesses.

ok so what if I'm milk supply is already deceasing so pumping is impossible...I've tried a few times and end up finding a little blood in the 1/2 once from both breasts! They say that your supply could dry up a bit and start forming colostrum earlier which might not be aggreeable to her. I know that she could decide to wean herslef if not getting enough or she's had enough so I guess maybe just go with her lead???? More advice would be great...thanks.

Sounds to me like you may have to wean for now, and after a couple months or weeks, when the baby is well established, maybe add back in the older one for a night time feeding or something, just for bonding. If the older one is over 6 months then I dont think it would hurt anything.

thanks for the advice but I think I'll keep nursing until she let's me know otherwise...but I know that I do have that option
