Does it really take six weeks to get feeling better after you have your first baby? I was just wondering because I'm suppose to have mine in nine days.

I think Sonia has two children. With her first she had a vaginal and left 10hrs later. With her 2nd she had a csection and that required her to stay in the hospital for a while. Does that make sense? :) I hope I got that one right...

I don't understand how/why you left the hospital so early after your first birth, I researched it and in the US it mandatory for mom and baby to stay at least 24 hours after giving birth. Where are you from and how long ago was your first birth?

You can use your real name. I'm not going to get mad or hate you for questioning me. but It is true I lived in Utah at the time. I had my daughter around midnight and left the hospital at 10 am the next morning. I don't know anything about the law you are talking about but if it is true maybe it has changed since I had my daughter that was ten tears ago. Some women feel like they recover better at home anyway. Some Dr. do too because there is a lot of infection in hospitals and if you are not sick they think you should be at home as soon as possible too. I don't think that law is real though. I think it really is up to the Dr. After my VBAC I was supposed to stay longer because I had strep B but the Dr. let me go early because My baby and I were healthy and I really wanted to be in our own enviroment to bond. Plus if women are allowed to give birth at home why would they have to stay in a hospital after birth. I think who ever told you this was lying to you. I sence that you don't like what I said about feeling really good after my first birth and I wasn't trying to be snotty I was trying to give comfort. When you are young and it is your first baby often times mothers will feel good after birth. This doesn't mean I didn't have discomfort down there I did. As I get older the recovery is a little bit harder for me but I still think we were designed to bounce back fairly easily after all God did create us perfectly to do this and we must be strong enough to care for a new baby after birth.

I would have to agree with Sonia on this one. I don't believe there would be a law that states you must stay in the hospital 24 hours after giving birth. This would make homebirths technically against the law. lol...Maybe you misunderstood and it is suggested that you stay in the hospital for 24 hours. But as long as Mommy and baby are feeling good, I see no reason why going home 10 hours after birth is hard to believe.

I think it's up to the hospital and your Dr. I had my son in the evening and they decided not to release me from the hospital the next morning and had me stay another night. I had a two day labor though and had a lot of repair work so it was okay with me that they wanted to keep me there. As for the 6 week thing, just depends on your body. I have a friend that bounced back right away and was out horseback riding a week later, of course it was baby #3 and she didn't have an episitomy or anything and her little one was smaller than the others she had. I was still having a hard time sitting when my maternity leave ended at 9 weeks. Hope yours goes fast, and you'll be so happy about your baby that it will help take your mind off of evverything. Just make sure that they send you home with some pain killers. My Dr. went on vacation the day after my son was born and the Dr. that released me from the hospital didn't even check me and even criticised me when I asked about pain mangement. (My Dr. had told me they would send me home with something because of all of the trauma.) That jerk made me cry and sent me home with tylenol. It was not good. By the time my Dr. came back from vacation, I really didn't need anything but called to tell her what happened and she was really shocked. Won't ever make that mistake again. Just because you get pain killers doesn't mean that you need to take them, so it's better to get them just in case...
