Has anyone ever been told that they had a hernia in around thier abdomen wall? I did at my last appt. and i'm scared to death about it. They said it might be from all the stuff inside me getting pushed up and when i'm done being pregnant it will go away but i wont know for another two weeks. Im scared but they said that if it is a hernia that they could fix it if i get a c-section? Just looking for some comfoting advice so i dont go crazy in the next two weeks Thanks

Hey Kitty,

I have the exact same thing....I think my hernia has been there for about 5 yrs ( since i was pregnant with my daughter) and mine never went away, this pregnancy it has been reall sore off and on....I have a Dr. appt today and i will discuss my options fro getting it fixed after i have my son. I plan on getting my tubes tied so i hope they can just do everything all at once.

Wow, someone with the same thing. Did it cause you alot of pain or anything when you were first pregnant?

not the first time around, I think with this pregnancy it got bigger so it's way more sorer. I went to the Dr's yesterday, and he said we would have to schedule in a general surgeon to fix it, at the same time i get my tubes tied.....so we'll just see how that goes....but not to worry it really is no big deal, I'm more concerned with the "vanity" aspect of it all...I mean I didn't work this hard not to get stretch marks only to get stuck with a big ugly lump above my belly button! lol!

I am not sure if I am in the same boat. But I am only 8 weeks along in my first pregnancy and have been having some very strong "squeezing" pains in my lower right abdomen area. I found a scar there and spoke with my mother about it--and was told that when I was 6 weeks old I had an inguinal hernia which was removed then. I am scared that now that I am pregnant--the hernia has come back because I have never felt this type of pain before. I haven't mentioned it to my doctor yet, but am going to this week for sure. Do you have any advice on how to make it less painful??

i'm not for sure if I certainly have a hernia or not, but all I know is that i have a painful knot above my navel. i'm only about 4 weeks and i just my out about my pregnancy about 5 days ago. I have a doctors appointment next week so i'll find out for sure then, but i think that it's a hernia. I was just reading everyone else's comments to compare it to my situation, but all i know is that this hurts and i want to get it fixed A.S.A.P

I'll tell you right now, I believe I have the exact same thing. I am on my 3rd/last child. I have been complaining for 5 years since my last baby, to KAISER about abdominal pain and they have never been able to pick up on what was the problem. I'm about 23 weeks pregnant and they THINK its a hernia w/a possible fibroid underneath it. I'm huge and only going on 6 months, way bigger than I was w/the other children. I'm not getting much help with this and yes its very painful as I get further along. They say they will do another c-section & tie my tubes. But they say its too much blood to fix everything all at once. To me thats too many surgeries and a lot of scar tissue.

I got a hernia right above my belly button after I had my baby. The docs said it might be because she was so big and i am small that all the stuff moving and stretching caused this. She is 9 months now and its still there. The doctor said it probably won't go away and I they won't do anything until after I am done having kids. It doesn't hurt yet, but I am afraid it might hurt if I have more kids.

I was told a few days ago by a general surgeon that I have a hernia above my belly button. It would bother me on and off and I started doing prenatal yoga and it didn't bother me again for almost a whole month. Anyway the surgeon wants to operate TWO months after I give birth! I will go to another surgeon for a second opinion and even then I will wait until after I give birth to see if the hernia will still be a problem. My midwife says I should get it taken care of (surgery) until after I am done having kids, this is my second child and I am 7 months pregnant. The surgeon did say that it shouldn't be an issue when giving birth, but that if I experienced intense pain and redness around where the hernia is I should call him any time of day. I guess because it could be a strangulated hernia at which point I think surgery would be necessary asap. When I left the surgeon's office I wanted to cry, but I talked to my neighbor and she said she had the same thing with her second child, but never had it repaired and it hasn't bothered her or caused her any problems. The surgeon also said that the growing uterus has a way of protecting you so that the hernia will not become strangulated. I hope this info helps some of you. It is comforting to know that this isn't as rare as we may think. I would recommend that you be cautious when they want to go right in and operate. No matter how minor a surgery, it's still surgery.

when i was 5 months pregnant they told me i had an umbilical hernia and it was incarcerated and they would have to surgically fix it. i was scared to death but it was not all that bad. the recovery hurt so bad but was ok. now i am 2.5 weeks till due date and it is back. they said that if it gets incarcerated again they will have to do c section but if not they wont have to. so hopefully they will be able to fix yours w/out doing c section. hope this helped!
