I've been desperatly try to get Christian to off the bottle. Like for the past 2 weeks. He''ll be 11 months the 24th. And he won't do it.

He drinks juice and water from his sippy cup. But as far as drinking his milk, he's not having it at all! He'll just play around with the cup and chew on the top, but not actually drink from it. I'll give him milk in his bottle and he'll drink it up.

So, today I offically gave up. He won't be on the bottle forever so my attitude is "So be it".

Heres what I have found to work......

You cannot just give a child something new and say here ya go this is what you get now and expect them to just go w/ the flow.......at 6 months I started the 4 ounces of juice and also 1 ounce of cows milk for a week and then week 2 2 ounce until I was up to 4 ounces and I did 4 ounces of the cows milk a day untill 9 months and then I uped it to 8 ounces until I weaned her from nursing at 12 months...I wanted her to aguire a taste for the milk..most babies think it's a shock at first and hate it, so you have to slowly get them used to it. Same goes with the sippy, and yes most babies are stubborn and don't want it either...but as mean as it sounds they won't starve.

Well would you choose milk or juice ???? Juice is sweet.... any child would drink juice out of ANYTHING. i havent introduced juice to izzy.... why would you when there is water ??? Water is always a better option. Alot of babies find it hard to drink milk out of other things because since they were born its been out of a bottle OR a breast..... it confuses them.. it takes time.. but it will happen.

Do you have the "Nuby" sippy cups? Thats the only once my son used at first and he never through a fit ever. I only gave him a bottle at night. He was so easy to transition with those.

Also try a sippy cup with a similar teet to the bottle...

2 weeks, two LOOONNNG weeks i've been at it. I'll give in because I know he's hungry, I know he wants his formula. And I thought If he's hungry enough he'll take the sippy cup. NOPE. He'll toss it around or just chew on the top but won't actually drink from it.

I've actually tried to feed him myself with the sippy cup. He'll just turn his head or knock it out the way. I just don't understand.

Then I just give it to him in a bottle....

Rosey in my orginal post, I also said I give him water too. So, i'm not just giving him juice.

M25- I think I feel like i'm straving in my not just giving him his formula in a bottle. I'm just weak right now. I think i'kk start fresh next Monday, because this morning I gave in and gave him a bottle.

in America they recomend that we introduce juice at 4 months old to insure the baby gets the recomended daily amount of fruits.

Try the avent kind with the softer tip...they're more pricey but worth it.....

I used to say things like that opheiliamath.....I'll do it next week because it didn't go right this week and things just get ahead of you if you keep doing that if that makes sense......Just be firm with him........have a throw away the bottle party, and let him be part of it...maybe keep 1 on hand for emergencies....that way he knows they're gone and you can't give in all the time....it sounds retarded but we had to do this w/ a binky w/ one of ours and it works......make a big to do about throwing them out, and let him help.....at 11 months he may not understand yet but it's worth a try

I used to say things like I'll do it tommorow because it didn't go right today...if you keep doing that things tend to get ahead of you if that makes sense. Try having a throw away the bottle party and keep one on hand for emergencies......that way he knows they're gone and you can't give in so easily. Let him be a part and make a big to do about it, so he knows they're gone....at 11 months he may or may not get the grasp but it's worth a try.....but if you keep on the bottle it rots their teeeth, and juice from a bottle is a huge no no

A throw away the bottle party?! Sounds genius....He knows how to say bye bye so maybe?....Omgosh i'm soooo gonna try that.

I'm not sure if he'llunderstand either but its worth a try.

yeah find and old party hat and a blower or something

Name: ..RoSey.. | Date: Apr 14th, 2008 10:26 PM
well why dont you just give them fresh fruit then mother2five ??? Those juices are always full of sugar and crap lol....

Name: mother2five | Date: Apr 14th, 2008 10:33 PM
AT FOUR MONTHS??????
Actually gerber juices are 100% juice.......

Name: mother2five | Date: Apr 14th, 2008 10:35 PM
100% juice is the only kind of juice we buy.....I do not allow my kids to drink kool aid and things like that.....oh they do get to have those suger free single packets that you pour in water and mix but thats it......my older ones drink water the 100% juice and milk and if we go out to eat I allowt them to have a sprit or a root beer or lemon aid something they don't get daily

Name: mother2five | Date: Apr 14th, 2008 10:36 PM
The only way you could give a 4 month old fruit is to use one of those things that you put the fruit in and they chew on it......will not get the daiily recomended amount that way

Name: ..RoSey.. | Date: Apr 14th, 2008 10:39 PM
well thats what i used for my daughter.. 1 of them fruit mesh things.. they work great.

Name: mother2five | Date: Apr 14th, 2008 10:43 PM
I'm not saying they don't work...those things are awesome...ya know a why didn't I think of that kinda invention, lol I'm saying you can't get the daily recomended amount from using it.....it's purpose is to introduce fresh fruit to a child that can't yet eat choppedpeices, each person has to have that certain amount of fruit daily to stay healthy and 100% juice is a great way to get it

Gabbie still has two bottles of homo milk a day, one for nap and one for bedtime. I breastfed her for 17 months but introduced homo milk too at 12 months. BUT, she wouldn't drink the homo milk out of a sippy cup, only a bottle. And b/c her weight gained had slowed right down we wanted to make sure she was getting the milk into her. She drinks water all day long out of a sippy and the occaisonal cup of juice thrown in a few times a week. Since she loves water, I don't want to get her too hooked on juice all the time. Anyway, b/c it's part of her bedtime routine and we struggle to get her to go to bed at all, I'm not taking away her bottles yet. Plus, I want her drinking her milk!

Ok, i've decided to wait until he's one and do a double whammy.

Introduce the whole milk and sippy cup at once. So, he can enjoy his bottle for about 2 more months and I can have my sanity, atleast whn it comes to that department.

But thanks for the idea.

By the way coartney, I thought if he was hungry enough he would take the sippy cup, but he didn't. I dunno...i'lll try again when he's one.
