This is my first baby... a beautiful boy I'm sure :). I'm Due July 31st and I have been reading and reading all of the "signs" that labor is soon... like the baby dropping and "the show" ect... but none of this is happening for me. So far my pregnancy has been perfect, but I'm so anxious.... Has anyone with kids had a labor that had no signs until **boom** they were in labor??? Does that happen??? Help...

Yes it certainly does happen......of course every woman is different, but both my 1st & 2nd pregnancy, I was exactly a week after the due date, and the labor started out of no where.....but with my 3rd, I had the bloody show, and was dilated a couple cm for a week or so. I was very confused!

Good Luck & Congrats!

Amanda, don't worry. I just had my baby on july 7th(my first) and I was thinking the same thing too. I wasn't due until the 17th, but I was waiting and waiting and felt like I was never going to have the baby. On the 6th I had my doctors appt. and I still wasn't dilated, but low and behold, 7:30 that evening I was in the hospital, 5 minutes apart and having a baby. And don't let anyone tell you any horror stories, I had a wonderful experience. Congratulations!

Thanks ya'll... At my last doctors appointment he tells me, that I'm dilated only 1/2 centimeter... and that he thinks I'm going to be past due.... and on top of that... he says that the labor will probably be long... can he really know all of that???? What about the baby dropping? Did you guys have that prior to? that's the thing that is bothering me the most... the fact that the baby hasn't dropped yet... do they sometimes do this WHEN you go into labor?

It is so hard being a first time mom and not know what to expect going into labor. My first baby did not drop until I started to push. I had to be induced 2 days before my due date, and I started at nothing. It did take 18 hours for my daughter to arrive, but she did! Yours will too! No worries! :o)

Why did they induce you? I'm wondering if that is an option for me.

I am so sorry it took so long to respond! I have been having computer problems. I had to be induced because Meghan turned breech at 36 weeks, so every week they were checking to see if she had turned. Well, she did turn, but they also noticed that she did not grow at all for the last month of my pregnancy, and my fluid was getting low. So my doctors decided to do an emergency induction. It really didn't take as long as I thought...only 18 hours starting from nothing. The doctors were thinking that she would weigh only 4 pounds or so.. But when she was born she was a perfect 6 lb 5 oz. I am hoping to get pregnant again soon, but this time I would like to go into labor on my own. But, of course, we do whatever we need to do for our babies. God Bless!!!

Well I was due on the 25th July and havent had any signs either- no pains, no braxton hicks, nothing! My stomach hasnt dropped at all and I feel the same as always. I hope this baby hurries up a bit coz I am going crazy. My friend had no signs either, woke up one day and 8 hours later had the baby.
