well as some of you might already know, i had a miscarriage back in july. i got my period sept. 22 but im irregular (it took 10 weeks for it to come after my m/c), but i was counting and for someone who's regular, they would be ovulating around oct. 6. i was gonna buy those ovulation predictor tests, but i dont know how they work. Could anyone explain them to me?
Also, how long does sperm survive? i heard it was about 72 hours, so if i have sex and dont ovulate til 2 days later, is there a possibilty i could get pregnant? I just dont know if my hubby's gonna be here around that time, but ill buy those tests if someone could just tell me how they work. Thanks so much

HI - I am currently "studying" this myself and from what I read, sperm can live for about 2-4 days, and as long as 7 days in some cases. The ovulation kits test for the levels of oestrogen as it spikes just prior to ovulation.
Good Luck!!!

Hi Vane, how are you? Well, I'm still counting the days to test, I'm now 4 days before AF is due to show up again. I took an Answer HPT this morning and it was a bfn. I'll test again if I miss my period. I hate all this, especially when I think that I should be about 5 months along now. I ended up crying myself to sleep last night.

The strange thing is, my cm is thickening now to the stage just before the ew stage, which I didn't have at ovulation. My breasts have been tender, but I've had that before when my AF was due. I did get a ghost like line on a dollar tree test, but that was only 7dpo and I believe that was just an evap. Anyway, will keep you posted.

To answer your question, whenever you get a positive on your opk, you want to do the babydance at least 4 nights starting the night you get your positive. I actually use to different ones, worried I may miss it. Tryingfor#2 is right about the sperm and that it can live up to 7 days and the egg only 24 to 48 hours, so not a big window of opportunity. Keep me posted, miss chatting with you, but I find myself trying to ween myself of this forum. Everyone has been so supportive, but I feel as I don't belong. You take care and God bless

I owe the ovulation predictors for my baby! They are soo worth the money! They come with instructions on how they work, when to test and when to have sex. We began trying to conceive on April 3, I got my period April 11 and I began using the ovuation predictors about April 21 (cause not ALL women ovulate exactly 14 days after their cycle, some will go sooner and some late). I used one every night until I got a positive ovuation result and I did have to go through 2 boxes. Well, needless to say, I didn't ovulate until DAY 20 of my cycle, which was April 30th. We had had sex April 29th and so I decided to wait until May 1 to have sex again and I think she was conceived on May 1. However, I will say the entire month of April, we had sex every other day, no matter what. We got a positive pregnancy test on May 10th. They are worth the money! Go for it! P.S. Are you tracking your periods on a website that helps you? www.mymonthlycycles.com or www.fertilityfriend.com are good ones.

Oh, I wanted to add. Sorry if this is TMI, but I personally think it makes a difference in the result. I got a cheap tupperware thing, peed in that and then dipped the stick into it (my Ovulation predictors had instructions for both urine stream testing and dipping). I just felt safer with the dipping. Each night, I would rinse the tupperware thingy off with water and just put it under the bathroom sink unti the next night.

hi daisy
well, i try to stay away from this site also but i just had this question. i wanna try again this month, my boy is turning 2 in Dec. and i dont want there to be a huge gap b/ my kids. Plus im only planning on having 2, so now would be a good time to be Preg. I also felt bad cause i saw my friend and i thought wow, i would have been 5 months preg, but now's the time to try again
im gonna go buy those predictors cause i should be ovulating within the next week or 2, i just dont know. i hope my hubby doesnt leave anytime soon, cause then id have to wait another month, and i think ive been waiting long enough.
Anyway, keep us posted and i hope the other 2 girls will turn out pregnant soon!!

I just wanted to pop in a little note that I am praying for all of you guys. I tried for a long time to get pregnant and ended up using fertility drugs. I remember how God aweful horrible the waiting was though. I'm planning another baby soon after this one ( I also want to keep the age gap small) and I think I'm going straight for the pills again. The waiting and stress was just to much.

Chemical pregnancy? what does that mean?

Name: nicole jones1 | Date: Oct 8th, 2006 4:24 PM
A chemical pregnancy is when there is something genetically wrong with the sperm or egg so that after fertilization the body re-absorbs or gets rid of the actually blastocyst because it instinctivly knows that it will not develope, but the HCg hormone is still in the body. In that case it doesn't really count as a miscarriage - seeing as there was never a viable pregnancy to begin with - but a pregnancy blood test may come up positive.

I've been in the same boat you are.. I had a miscarriage in January, and wanted to start trying again so badly. I tried just counting for a few months, and then bought an ovulation predictor. According to the directions in the opk, I never had a positive result -- the directions in my kit said the test line had to be as dark as or darker than the control line to be positive. I had a few days with faint lines, and sure enough the next month i got a positive hpt! So...I think they actually do work by measuring for hormone levels, but I would take the directions loosely, because I obviously ovulated!
