Hi
I was diagnosed with UD approx 2 years ago this November and the good news is in the 2 years that I was diagnosed I have a healthy 7 month old sone. I want women to know that there is hope. When I found I had just got married and was thinking on having a family in the near future and when I found I felt defeated as if I was never going to be able to have a child. I knew previous to this that I has one kidney and at that time that seemed like a hurdle to having a baby with the UD I really felt down. I went home stop taking the pill and within 5 months got pregnant I had a great OB who watched me carefully and my son was born at 38 weeks and 2 days and came naturally....If any of you have any questions or just need to cheered up you can email me [email protected] will and can happen.

Having two uteri and two cervices is called uterine didelphys. This and bicorneate uterus belong to a class of abnormalities called Mullerian Anomalies. According to my reproductive endocrinologist, uterine didelphys (2 uteri, 2 cervices, usually with a vaginal septum) is more rare than bicorneate uterus. The January 2008 edition of Fertility and Sterility magazine has a really good article about this.
I was just diagnosed with uterine didelphys (my doctor used an MRI, which gave REALLY good pictures), and my husband and I are trying to decide how risky pregnancy will be. My doctor seems to think there's a major risk of preterm labor with serious possible complications for the baby (but he may just be giving the worst case scenario). We're going to see a perinatologist for more information soon.
As you can imagine, it's been a little bit of an ordeal. We always thought we'd just be able to have kids, no fuss, whenever we wanted, but it looks like that might not be the case.
I'm glad to have the chance to read about other women who have successfully had children. It makes me feel like things might not be hopeless.

Well i have 2 uterus but one cervix. I’m not sure what the odds of that are. I’m really praying htat when that when the time comes, i would just have a normal pregnancy, I mean we have read so many stories on this blog, but every pregnancy is different, and how God says” aim for the stars “well that’s what im going to try to do, and just hope for the best…and I think that this year 2008 there will be blessings poring for all of us…I will keep you ladies updated!!

Hi all,
I have been researching Chimerism and I was wondering: Has anyone told you about this anomaly? My aunt has a double uterus, double ovaries, fallopian tubes ect. I think she may have been a twin.
I am trying to make a connection to these genetic anomalies and chimerism so I can answer some questions in my own family.

It seems if all the women from my mother's side have some type of missing twin issue except me, and even I may have a form of Chimerism because of my autoimmune diseases.

In case someone doesn't know what Chimerism is, it is still rare, but it's when a human has two sets of DNA. It just makes sense that some of you ladies may have double uteruses may have originally been a twin very early on in your mother's pregnancy hence, a possibility of a separate set of DNA, . Skin problems such as chronic hives or thyroid diseases are symptoms of Chimerism. Has anyone in here thought of getting genetic testing as to why you have 2 uteruses?

There are many uterine anomalies. Uterus didelphis means double uterus and is actually one of the more rare anomalies. I actually have this and although I have heard that you could get pregnant a second time, I don't think it's that common. Basically how it was described to me by the perinatologist is that the pregnancy hormones take over the body which prevents the other side from getting pregnant. In fact, when I got pregnant they did an ultrasound and the lining of uterus without the baby was thickened as if it were pregnant also. Don't quote me on any facts-this is all information I've heard and experienced. You can find lots of interesting stuff online.

Sorry-didn't read all the previous replies that explained about UD. Just for those of you who feel down-hearted, pregnancy and happy, healthy children can happen. I have a beautiful daughter who will be 4 on the 23rd. She is smart and healthy now and although it has been rough, it is definitely worth it. It did take about a year to get pregnant and pregnancy was tough. I started contracting at 20 weeks and went on bed rest (most drs don't do bed rest anymore, or so that was what I was told). She came at 29 weeks-2 lbs. 9 oz. I never had any miscarriages, although the more recent studies suggest a fairly high rate. All of these these can be hard to face, but it's so worth it that after being fearful for 4 years, we have finally sought the advice of a new perinatologist and are working on number 2! Good luck to all of you and if you ever have specific questions that you don't feel like posting, you can email me at [email protected]

I think I've already replied on this before but my sister has two uteruses and she has two beautiful girls. They were both about a month earlier and 5 pounds-ish but all is well.

I was born with a uterine septum and vaginal septum and 2 cervices. I had the uterine septum and vaginal septum removed and delivered a healthy baby boy at 37 weeks.
During labor, both of my cercixes dilated and the tissue between them ripped so that after I delivered, they formed into one cervix.
The problem is I sometimes have bleeding during intercourse if my cervix is bumped and the bleeding stops immediately afterwards.
I also have some bleeding if I strain too much during a bowel movement (from my cervix, not rectally) and it stops immediately afterwards.

AND it only happens from about day 15 on, never right after my period.

I've been told I have some redundant tissue at the top of my cervix and I wonder whether it is keeping my cervix from sealing properly?

PLEASE let me know if anyone out there has experienced the same problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I'm 18 and about 1 1/2 years ago i got my period but it was different it became really heavy and wouldn't stop for about 7 days. By that time my whole face became an eerie white and i lost all color in my lips. I couldn't stand so they took me to the ER and they couldn't find out what's wrong with me. So they sent me to a different hospital where they gave me an exam and they found out i had two uterus's and two cervix. And on top of that what was causing the heavy unstoppable bleeding was that i also had Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. They put me on birth control to stop the bleeding and now i'm never supposed to get my period. Which i guess isn't so bad and i didn't think this would bother me until i became sexually active. Sex just isn't very good so it sucks. I'm hoping my gyno will have some ideas for me.

LAST WEEK ON THE 2ND OF JULY (MY32ND B-DAY)
I WENT IN AND HAD AN ULTRASOUND, THE REPORT CAME BACK THAT THE BABY WAS IN THE LEFT UTERUS. WELL TODAY I WENT IN FOR ANOTHER ULTRASOUND AND THIS TIME THE DR. DID IT HERSELF. SHE SAYS OK, THERE IT IS, ITS IN THE RIGHT SIDE. I SAID NO...ITS IN THE LEFT SIDE. SHE SAID NO, LOOK HERES THE RIGHT UTERUS AND THERES THE BABY, THE I TOLD HER CAN YOU CHECK THE OTHER SIDE BECAUSE LAST WEEK THE BABY WAS IN THE LEFT SIDE. SO SHE LOOKED AT THE LEFT SIDE AND SAID, OH WOW THERES ONW THERE TOO.
SO YEAH THIS CAN HAPPEN.
BY THE WAY, THEY ARE 2 DIFFERENT PREGNANCY'S ONE IS AT 6 WEEKS ONE IS AT 7 THEY ARE 7 DAYS APART.
SO WISH ME LUCK. ILL KEEP YOU POSTED.

I have two uterus'. It is a condition called bicornis uterus...Thank God that I have only been pregnant twice, two seperate times..and have two healthy children. Both of my pregnancies were tough, and I had pre term labor with the first one at 28 weeks, but they stopped my labor, and I was able to carry her until 37 weeks. With my second I went into labor at 32 weeks, and had him, he was only 3 lbs. and had to be in the NICU for 3 1/2 weeks. He is five now, and has had no complications. This is a serious condition, and I just happen to be one of the lucku ones...well I should say blessed ones. So it is possible to have a healthy baby, although you prob. will have to have a c-section.

well i have two uterus and my doctor told me that it's very unlikely to get pregnant on both sides unless done at the same time...because after one becomes pregnant the other also reacts as if it were pregnant as well...im kind of new at this i just found of i was pregnant for the first time at 19 and thats when i found out i had 2 uterus, 2 cervix and 2 cannals, only one vagina but what they call a split vagina...im not quite sure about all of this because i had a miss carriege at 2 1/2 months so i didnt experience the whole pregnancy...i am now pregnant again im at 3 months and hopefully everything its better!

hello! i,m from Nicaragua (central America), i´m 30 years old.

i was diagnosed with UD a month ago.

i had a blood test for pregnancy and its was positive, but when i went for an ultrasound the dr. told me that i wasn´t pregnant and she discovered the double uterus. i have follicular cysts, that was the cause of the positive result. then i went to a gyn ind he told that i have to undergo corrective surgery, i was really afraid and sad, but now i´m better,
i did research on the web and i found this forum i´m happy now reading that it is possible to have healthy kids with this condition. my husband support me a lot. we want to have kids, but now we are waiting the doctors to complete all the necessary tests. i´m consulting a good gyn now.

the weird thing is that 10 years ago i had pelvic ultrasounds (3) and the doctor never notice the double uterus, and in the reports he wrote that everything was normal, maybe is because of the technology ten years ago.
this forum helped me a lot. thank you all of you for posting your experiences. i´ll keep in touch.

I know you wrote that nearly 4 years ago, but if it's any help, I too have 2 uteruses. I have all the same problems you do. the pill, two periods, painful sex. Just curious how you're doing... I'm not sure how much help I'd be for questions since I'm only 19... But I'd be happy to talk. Thanx!

hi everybody my name is megan i am 19 years old and when i was 13 i discover i was born with two uteri, two cervic(s) i also had a transverse vaginal ceptem which in english means i had a wall in my vaginal canal. at thirteen i had the wall removed and then i was sent on my way. i have only been to one womens doctor and she was really bad i left crying and havent been back. and get this they charge you for two papsmeres(dont know if thats spelled correctly) also they cant tell me anything for sure because they havent seen any other women with my situation. i wish there was someone i could talk to about this. i also recently decided to end a 4 year relationship with my high school sweet heart mostly becasue my bigest fear is getting pregnant and loosing my baby. with the decision to end this relationship i have decided to never be with another man for many reasons. is there anyone out there who can talk to me i have nobody

I have a bicornuate uterus and was told that there is a slight possibility of this happening, but it's highly unlikely.
I have a 16 year old, a 2 year old and I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant..
