..i've been surfing the Net for information about homeschooling and there seems to be a lot of discrimination about it. why is that?..i believe it is a great education alternative, and people are given their freedom to choose how they like their children to be schooled. people can be so harsh in viewing home schooling and home education, as i've witnessed at http://homeschoolforsuccess.com/homes

I chose to stay home with my kids and run a daycare so we do a preschool program since the average age of kids is 3-5. We do everything the local preschool does and kindergartens do - letter tracing, numbers, word recognition for pre-reading, science, baking, etc. The kids also have time to socialize on their own and enjoy free play.

I will choose to put my own kids in kindergarten when the time comes but I think an enriched afterschool program is just as important as letting kids play.

People have the same concerns I've heard about Montessori schooling. As long as the kids are ready for the next level of education and working to the best of their abilities and are challenged, it shouldn't matter where they are taught. JMHO.

Well, I just wanted to say that there is good and bad in everything. If your child goes to public school you have to worry about other children influencing your child in negative ways. It seems like they are having to grow up so fast in public school these days. I have 3 boys and 1 is homeschooled because he has adhd and we couldn't get the school to modify his work. The other 2 are in public school and have no problems academically, but have been exposed to bad language, kids talking about sex, kids talking about womens menstrual cycles, and one of the latest is that there is no Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, or Tooth Fairy. The really sad part about that is their twins and their only 8. I know all this will come in time, but I would have preferred for it to come later, and by myself and my husband. With homeschool you have to be willing to invest alot of your time and patience. It also is an extra cost to your family financially, but there are also great emotional rewards with it. Don't worry you'll make the right decision. Just remember if you try something and it does 't work you can always do something else. Good luck!
