I think my 9 year old son has dyslexia and I can not afford to get the testing myself. Is there any help out there to pay for it?

have you checked with your son's school?? From what I have been told, every child is entitled to a free education, and testing for problems. Just a thought!

Momof1 is write his school should pay for the eval. Does the school suspect your child has this problem? or do you think he/she has it? If it is you, the school may give you a problem with the eval, you may have to put up a fight to get it.

My daughter was 7 when she was finally diagnosed. We knew something was not right in her 1st grade year. Of course, we talked to the teachers and principal. They knew there was a problem, but they just thought is my daughter was not mature enough. Her b-day being in May, we tended to agree. The school wanted us to hold her back in 1st grade. I really didn't want to do that, at first. It appalled me that they wanted her to tay back in 1st grade, but wouldn't help find out what was going on. No one wanted to help. They said she was to young to be tested for anything. We pushed and pushed. They decided to test her at the end of her first, 1st grade year. We didn't get the results until after the beginning of the next year. It was still undetermined. She was borderline. We found out in January of that school year that she has adhd. They decided to test her again for dyslexia towards the end of her second 1st grade year. It turns out she is dyslexic. The school tested and payed for it. She is now taking adderall for her adhd and special reading classes for her dyslexia with a trained dyslexia teacher. My daughter is doing sooo much better now. She still struggles on some things, but for the most part she is doing very well. Sorry for rambling on. Good luck.
