I can't stand it!!! That odor is disgusting!! I've had my cat for 10 years and she has always been strictly indoor. She is spayed but she still sprays and I am getting real tired of it,is there a solution to this problem, can I make her stop? How?

It could be a hormone problem or perhaps another cat has invaded her territory or been in the house and it's upset her.
Perhaps she's stressed about something.
Maybe she'd like to go outside and it's her way of protesting at having to stay indoors.

She could have a urinary tract infection. do you keep the litter box clean? Is she spraying or peeing? My moms female cat sprays too and she's going to take her to the vet cause he said there was some kind of treatment they can do, so maybe give your vet a call. and the answers above can be true also. There's many different answers depending on the reasoning to your cat spraying.

Ther is no other animal around inside. She has no desire to go out. When we open the door, she runs and hides....INSIDE! Yes,we keep her litter box clean,so i know that isn't it. I'm half tempted to put a diaper on her butt! (I'm kidding!) But this bothers me because the smell of it ruins my house. I have seen her do this. She backs up to a wall, lifts her tail straight up,and this thin line of liquid shoots straight out of her and onto the wall. I love her but I don't think I will be owning another cat once she passes.

Does she pee in the same place each time or in diffrent places? Is it at a window or door? and have you had her checked for a urinary tract infection? I had a female cat who was also spay and she at 8 years old started peeing in verious places in the house. I later found out that she had a urinary tract infection!

Ya.... I guess I should have read further down before posting. I do see she is spraying not peeing big diffrence between the two! There is obveously some thing in the envirement that has made her nervous! as I asked in the other thread I left where does she spray? If it is at a window or door she may see or smell another cat and feels she needs to protect her teratorrie. You said you dont have another cat so that rules out a pecking order between the cats. Often times females will spray when something changes between her and another cat that lives with her. Just remember she is obveously stressed about some thing, thats why females spray! so just try to be patient with her.

lindalu, she has sprayed on a wall near our livingroom door and also on the cabinet below our kitchen sink. I don't get it,she knows this is HER house! My gosh,we let her climb on anything she wants and sleep everywhere, including our bed! She seems to be perfectly happy, she plays and loves. She doesn't act like anythings wrong. If it is a urinary tract infection,it must be entirely different from our own or else she would be screaming and litterally climbing the walls! LOL! I just had one of those myself,OUCH!

Lizzi when I said nervous I dont mean scared nervous I mean insicure. Insocure doesnt mean she is not happy it just means something feels wrong or diffrent. This may sound weird! but has worked for many people, take a dampend cloth not soaked wipe your cat down with it. Take the same cloth and wipe it in the areas that the cat sprays. By wiping the scent from the cloth in the spray areas it will rebuild your cats confidance. To a cat terratory is every thing, so if we can help them spread their natural scent they wont feel the need to spray. You will have to repeat the same prosses each week untill she feels less insicure.
