Thanks dragraught, I am aware of that. We even waited a couple days to feed her! Not to mention they dont usually ready to eat for a few days after molting. We also removed any cricketts that was in her enclosure just befor she molted. I dont want to see her get chewed up by them, while she is molting! Thanks agin for the info!

I hate spiders let alone would i ever consider keeping one as a PET!!!!!!!! YUCK!!!!!!!! I kill them as i see them when their in my house!!!!!

Lizzi, molting is when they grow to big for thier skin and they shed it. When she shed hers it looked like another spider fanges and all!

Lizzi are you still having a issue with mice/rats in your crawl space? I remember a long time ago you said you had eather mice or rats in your crawl space.

Hey Lindalu, do you hold the spider?

Name: Lizzi | Date: Jan 20th, 2007 12:45 AM
O.K lindalu, you're really freaking me out with the molting thing,EEEWWW!!!!!! I knew snakes shed their skins but I didn't know tratulas did! Do all spiders do that?

As for my mice problem,we kept hearing noises in the attic, which isn't easily accessible because there's only a little cut out in our bathroom ceiling to get up there and there are no steps or floor up there for that matter so one must use extremem caution as well as be able to fit when entering! Lol But anyway what we did was I bought a half dozen mouse traps and put peanutbutter on them and since have captured 3 mice and the activity above has slowed waaaaaayyyy down!!!! Although, check this out, those mice can be pretty darn smart!!!! Sometimes they could get to the peanutbutter without setting off the trap!!!!! And get this, one of my traps has COMPLETELY disappeared!!!!!! i don't know if it's stuck on the mouse and he took it with him or what but it is GONE!!!!!!!

Oh,we set the traps all around our kitchen and they must have come down to get to the peanutbutter because that's where we caught the mice and we haven't been hearing near as much activity as we did before catching the 3 we did.

Well..... thats good you got them under control Lizzi, they sure can be trouble some little buggers! And smart is an under statment for mice! They are extremely intelligent little creatures, it doesnt surprise me when you say they where able to eat the peanut butter and not set of the trap!

Winnmom no I dont hold the spider, it creaps me out to much! I can hardly bear to think about it full grown ewww!

lindalu,do ALL spiders molt like that or just trantulas?

Name: lindalu | Date: Jan 20th, 2007 6:02 PM
Lizzi I dont think all spiders do molt. Some only live long enough to reproduce. I think the only ones that do are the long living ones.

I would never have a spider for a pet,no way, no how,uh-uh,not me!!!!!! Lol

Lizzi they are kinda creepy! When I have to feed her I pop the lid of and slam the cricket as fast as I can in to the inclosure, quickley puting the lid back on! Oooowww I dont want her to creep out, no...way!

When I was a kid,my uncle had one and he would put gloves on and take it out and let it crawl on him!!!! It was large and ugly and I didn't want ANY part of it!!!!!!

After that died he went and bought an iguana (I think that's what it was called?) It was like a lizard creature but much, much bigger and longer!

One of my husbands friends had a python..........YUCK!!!!

Speaking of snakes, did you ever used to watch a show called "Rescue 911"? It was a show of true stories of 911 call emergencies. Anyway,on this one show, this pregnant lady and her husband had a (pet snake) and it was BIG!!!! Anyway, one day when her husband was gone she decided to lay down for a nap,so she did. Upon waking,(and I have no idea how this happened),she was startled to find this snake had somehow managed to get into bed with her and wrap itself around her body,(back and stomach area) without waking her!!!! Luckily she had a phone in reach of where she lay and dialed 911! The snake wasn't tightening it's grip on her .........yet but it was snuggly wrapped around her!!!! Help arrived and they very carefully unwound the snake off of her,(scary)! Both she and her baby were o.k. I guess they had had the snake for some time and nothing like this had ever happened before. I say she was VERY lucky! That snake could have so easily crushed her and her unborn baby to death IF it wanted to...........scary stuff huh?

Lizzi, I remeber that one! I think they also said the snake sensed her pregnancy....and was trying to protect the the soon to be mom? Uh,huh. Nope, not me. I freak if I see a snake in the darn zoo!! In fact I try not to go to the reptile area!!

On vacation one year, my family decided to go to Reptile Gardens in S.Dakota! There were "other" creatures to be seen there. So...I didn't put up too much of a b****! But, we went in this one building (I was unsuspecting) and there were big ol' snakes hanging from trees!!! Well, yes! I cried lol (was NOT funny at time) You had to walk through the whole building to the other side to get out! Everyone was laughing at me!! Very traumatic! I will never forget, nor will I let my family, and hubby forget it!! There's just something about 'em!! I don't knock other people enjoying them. But...I WILL NOT be visiting you! LOL

You remember that one too Lory? COOL! That was just one of the ones that stands out in my mind really well! I haven't seen that show in ages,i don't think it's on anymore is it?! I don't know why(if it's not),that was a good show! Yeah I think all snakes and spiders and other creepy crawlies belong someplace far,far away from anyones home!!!!!

I can't remember now if this was on the news or what but this family who was living in a trailer somehow discovered that there was a huge snake nearly the length of their trailer living underneath it! They had to have animal control come and remove it! I'm not sure how it was discovered to be there though, creepy!
We once had a 6ft. black snake in our laundryroom. We had a hole in our wall beside the dryer that looked straight down into our crawlspace. the snake had come in and coiled itself up on a ledge next to the dryer. My son who was probably 8 at the time came running into me saying,(SNAKE,SNAKE,SNAKE!!!!!) I thought he was teasing me and I didn't believe him until I got up to go (see),AND MAN WAS HE NOT KIDDING!!!!!!!!! I screamed and my husband came running back there and saw it and he ran next door to get our neighbor who came over and beat it with a garden hoe and hauled it outside!!! It was gross!!!!! Even after he got it outside and chopped its head off it's body was still wriggling! It was soooo creepy!!!!!! My cat was always leary to go in the laundryroom for a long time after that,I think she could still smell the snakes scent!!!!!

EEEWWWW!! Lizzi, we have been fortunate enough so far to not have found 'em in the house. YET!! (knock on wood) lol
My nephew and hubby did find some babies in the bottom of our well house once. It is also our tornado shelter down there! I told my hubbby that I WILL NOT go down there! I'll take my chances in the tornado!! LOL (for those that have been in a tornado etc....no offense, sorry)

yeah, I don't know why they took that program off either. It's been awhile though! It seems they always take off the good ones to put on the crap these days!
Good cat you got there Lizzi!! lol

yeah Lory,my cats a big old baby! She would rather play with a mouse too than kill it! If she does kill one it's purely by accident because her claws are so sharp and long,Lol!
And I don't know why they took 911 away,it's not like the country has run short on calls or anything!
