How many here are vegetarians or vegans? I my self have just become a vegan. Yup....it has been two weeks now, no meat or dairy consumption for me. Its been pretty easy for me to drop it because my daughter is a vegan and has helped me learn what I can eat. Yaaaaa!!!!! I am so happy that I have finally done it!

I am. Well done to you! The first couple of months may be difficult for you, but you can do it! Very proud of you girl!

Thanks for the support Briseis! So far it hasn't been that hard. I didn't really eat much meat before any way so the meat want a problem. The dairy I thought would be a problem because every thing contains some form of dairy. So far so good the dairy hasn't been to bad either, its just a matter of knowing what to look for in the products ingredients.

Hateitall~ I always said every effort is a good effort, and so far I have been making a pretty good effort. The only problem I have been finding is that there are very few dishes you can eat out most contain some form of meat or dairy. I find my self eating in a lot more these days.

I have been a vegetarian for a litlle bit more than a month now and I have also found that eating out is the hardest part because salads get old after a while! So if it is hard for me I can't even imagine how you can do it, so well done!

Amber you can have pastas, rice, vegetables, red sauce, minestrone soup. I really have to look a menu over well and ask a lot of questions as to the ingredients in some of the foods. I have been finding that Asian, Indian and other cultural restaurants have a better selection for vegetarians and vegans.

Be sure NOT to eat McDonald's french fries they contain beef and milk. Many people think they are safe to eat because they are potato, also it has been said McDonald's use only vegetable shortening for their frech fries. NOT TRUE!!!!!The only thing you can eat there being a vegan is their apple pies.

Very good point Lindalu. Many Vegetarians/Vegans make that mistake, and it is an innocent mistake. Aside from that, supporting a company such as McDonald's or KFC by buying any products from them, even if they are meat-free is not something I'd condone.

Burger King is ok if you are in a pinch. There FF are cooked in canola oil as well as their French toast sticks and Hash browns.

T-Rabbit, are you a vegitarian too?

Name: lindalu | Date: Oct 29th, 2007 3:26 AM
Thanks T! I will keep that in mind. I really haven't found it to difficult, much easier than I thought it would be. There are so many food substitutes out there. I eat a lot of wheat gluten, soy and tofu. I could not believe all the foods that can be mimiced with just the three I listed above.

No I am not a vegetarian or vegan. I did it for 2 years in high school. I didn't have the support of my parents, and they would not allow it. I do how ever support any ones decision not to eat meat. I will support and encourage a change for the better in someones life. I don't have the will power to change with three kids and a husband. My hat off to the ones able to do it.

Thanks, but no thanks. This site has what looks like a bias name and is .org so it's info dosen't have to be factual. I only take my info from . gov sites or encyclopedias, if you know of any of those things that may help me please point them out. Again thanks.

To look or not to look is totally your option. You may have better luck to Google your question. Good luck!

On further viit of your site I found it contradictory, on one hand it had health info on vegitarians, on the other it had a link to a deer hunting website. Just though you ought to know.

Name: lindalu | Date: Oct 29th, 2007 9:35 PM
Shamo ~ The link you are talking about isn't a hunting link for hunters, it is a link to more info that explains why hunting is not necessary. That isn't what I was pointing you to any way. You asked a question and that site has the answer to your question. If you look on the left side of the page there is a list of questions, your question is among them.

Good lord lindalu you have took over the hiddy quitters.lol Every one is looking to tear you down. I guess it happens tho. GOOGLE is your friend. I have never had to ask on a forum for info I was always able to look it up on my own. Well have fun .

Name: lindalu | Date: Oct 29th, 2007 9:46 PM
T ~ I don't mind its just opinions and truthfully I have learned a lot from reading theirs. I don't plan to be as frontal as Hiddy was, I would just like to chat in a non argumentative manner thats all.

Google is a great thing, isn't it? But even with Google one has to be careful, not always are the Google sites knowledgeable sites.

Funny, it was in that white box. It was a link toa hunting website but it's not there anymore.

Name: lindalu | Date: Oct 29th, 2007 10:01 PM
Shamo ~ I went back to look.... I couldn't find it...all I could find was a link to more info about hunting. The link you seen most likely wasn't their link.

from what I have read being a vegan is very unhealthy. Like my mom used to say, eat a little of everything.

Name: lindalu | Date: Oct 30th, 2007 12:46 AM
Veganism is the most healthy diet one could eat. Thats if one knows the proper foods to eat to maintain the vitamin levels they required. Many don't investigate enough before they go vegan. My daughter has been vegan for almost 4 years, she is very healthy! I have been eating the vegan diet for a few months now and have had no problems.
