Hi, is there anyone else out there who got an US showing that the baby's cerebellum is measuring smaller than what the gestational age is? Please help me, i am so desperate to find out any information on this. I cried myself to sleep last night after going in for my 20 week u/s to find out the sex of the baby... instead i was told that my baby girl's kidneys are dilated to 5mm and that the cerebellum is measuring smaller than gestational age. the ob/gyn could not and would not shed any light on either, just reassured me that it was nothing to worry about but did go on to recommend i get a level II u/s with a perinatologist, for which i may have to wait up to 4 weeks if not more. i am scared on so many levels.... please help. thank you so much.

I, too, have had the kidney issue w/ my baby girl. I'm 35 wks and it has since resolved itself as most cases do before birth. If not, this condition is treatable after birth, so don't worry too much. As for the smaller head, if it is connected to some more serious condition like Down's, I think your baby would have a host of other things show up on US like major heart defects, bowel abnormalities, etc. so I bet she's just a little small right now. Did you have blood tests, quad screens, etc? How did they turn out? If your doctor is not worried, I wouldn' be either. Good luck & God Bless!

Naddy, thank you SO much for your reply. Could you tell me your baby girl's kidney size if you remember? Did you also have to do a level II u/s and if so, how long did they have you wait after the first u/s?
My doctor just told me that the cerebellum is measuring smaller in comparison to her gestational age... about 5 days behind.
I only had a nuchal translucency test and the blood test that it came with (i don't remember what they called that blood test), but i definitely know i did not have the quad screen (which i now regret). they didn't tell me anything more than about the kidney and cerebellum.
Thank you again Naddy. Just a few more weeks til you see your darling baby girl! congratulations.

Hi Corvina! Only the right kidney was slightly dilated at about 5mm. It was first seen on the 20-wk regular US, then I went to a Level II sono at about 24 weeks, still dilated at 5mm. I have had ultrasounds every 3 weeks since then, and the kidney (renal pelvis) is now back to normal size.
I also refused the blood tests & I regret that decision, but I didn't want to worry myself should the results come back abnormal. What a catch-22!!! Oh well, I'm hoping and praying she's normal.

Hi Naddy, from what you've said, i bet she's completely healthy and normal. with all of those ultrasounds, wouldn't they have detected something by now?
I'm so happy for you that the baby's kidneys are back to normal.
My baby's right kidney was 5mm and left 4mm at 19 weeks and 2 days... along w/ a smaller cerebellum than gestational age. I pray my baby's kidneys will be normal at some point. Will you let me know how you and she are doing after you give birth... i'm sure you'll be busy, but i'd love to hear.
thank you so much for replying to my posts.
good luck in your last few weeks of pregnancy!

We just received word today that one of our twins (at 24 weeks) has a smaller cerebellum in the OS and we have scheduled an appointment with a specialist in 2 weeks. I was researching for other parents with the same issue and found you guys discussing the same. Can you please inform me how everything turned out for you guys? Please Please HELP!!!
