I am here to tell you all that your first thoughts of having a child with clubbed feet are so much worse than what it needs to be. It really is no big deal...so he has casts on..so he wears funny shoes..if you can't handle those little minor things in life...maybe kids arent for you anyway. Life isn't perfect....you have to roll with the punches.

My son is now 2 1/2 years old and was born with 1 club foot he was in cast from 3 days old till about 3 months when he then had surgery and worn shoes (they had a bar across the middle) that held his foot in place. There is no stopping him now and you would never know that he had anything wrong with his foot as a baby unless you looked closely at the back of his foot.

Hello Everyone,
My baby was born with bilateral club feet. She had her first surgery at 2 months, one foot was better then the other so at 4 months she had her second on her right foot. She is currently 1yrs old and in the mitchell brace. But some times at night when I streach her feet to put the brace on her feet shake for a few seconds. Her Dr. says it's o.k. Has this ever happend to any of your babies/ or have you ever heard of this happening ?

I'm 49, was born with bi-lateral club feet. I had casts, braces, surgery and corrective shoes. I wear a size 8 shoe, my feet look normal, doctors always comment on what a beautiful job was done.
I'm a black belt and have been very lucky in my results. Lately I have some foot pain (but I'm also getting older and am very active.)
I had twin boys, both born perfectly.
I wanted to inject some positive thoughts for all of you expecting parents. My surgeries (I also hand hand problems) were done through the Shriners.

I was born with only 1 clubed foot on the right I was born in 1984 and my mother had not a clue she could not find any information on the subject, she was told to correct it they would have to place steel rods through my legs and feet. I am 38wks with my first child and he has bi-latrial clubfeet it was scary at first but I found a methed call Poinsti which is a serious of casts and maybe a very small opp to lengthen his akilis tenden, I lived with my foot 2-3 sizes smaller then the right one and the only thing i prevented me from was wearing high heeled shoes, I had an opp at the age 17 and it has corrected it enough to stop me rolling it and pulling all the tendens and muscals, due to how long i had walk for my hips are twisted and i have arthritis in my back not sereve but its still there. Because I did have such a bad experience I looked every where to find a fix for my baby and the best one is this Ponsieti method i suggest looking into that, though I wont be able to put cute shoes on him and I will get nasty stairs from ppl who dont know why my new born baby is in casts I know that with in 6-12 mths you will never be able to tell.

Honey, 26 years ago, before elaborate testing, i gave birth to my first chid kristel.. she had severe bilateral clubed feet.. at a side view, looked like she had no feet...i cried, buckets, then knew, even back then, there were treatments...i decided to protect her, help her, and after 2 surgeries, her feet are fine.. she has no arch, and her feet ached during soccar games., her legs would bother her at growing times.. but... let me brag.. shes 26 years old today... 4th year medical student, and going to apply to orthopedics pediatrics.. can you imagine, a young mom, and a dr. comes in and says, i had the worst club feet ever, and worreid mom says, whats going to happen to my child, and kristel says, i had the worst clubbed feet ever, and, well here i am..... wish i had a dr ..like her... i would have looked at this beautiful gorgous girl , smart , and educated , and thought.. my child will be fine....JILL

I agree with everyone, you will love that baby more than you can imagine inspite of the obstacle. My son was born with both of his feet club almost 15 years ago. He got his first set of casts when he was a whopping 5 days old. He wore them for about 8 weeks but the doctors came to the realization he would need surgery and had it at 12 months old. He has been a healthy, young man that has lived a fairly normal life. He plays sports. Last year he had to have another surgery just on one foot where they put a pin in through his heel bone into his leg bone. He complains of pain when he has been on his feet for awhile which I am now trying to find ways to fix. He is an amazing young man. When he had his first surgery, I was scared and I remember my mother saying it is a long way from his heart. So just love your baby fully and good luck.

I was born with a club foot and left leg 5 inches shorter than my right. I think my book (2001) may be helpful to you as parents and to your child. While available on amazon: RITCH by M.D. Stuart , I'd be happy to mail you a copy.Regards,

My son is now 17 months old and was born with club feet on both feet. He had the casts and they were heavy and hard to keep clean sometimes do to blowout in his diaper. I guess that happens with all of them. We had to go to the doctors every week to have new ones put on. He ended up having his tendants in his ankles cut 2 times that was the hardest thing about it. He now wears braces with a bar between them everynight while he sleeps he doesnt seem to mind and just by looking at him you wouldnt know there is anything wrong. He walks and is trying to start running and his feet now look normal. One more thing when we took him out with his casts on i didnt bother covering them up i didnt want to treat him like there was something wrong with him. people do stare but they will ask you what its for. Just have patience and all will be well. I know its scary but Im sure everything will be fine.

My son is 14 months now and was born with bilateral club feet. We did not find out until he was born but I was not overly concerned because my older brother has club feet and most people have no idea. Anyway, when my son was born we received all types of resources. Shriners will provide free services and there are even organizations that provide help with gas money. We could stay at ronald mcdonald house for only $10 a night. He qualifies for infant toddler program which provides free physical therapy. We did casting for 6 weeks, lengthening of achilies tendon , bar 23 hours a day, now only at night. If you are diligent with. At you can go to nights only much sooner. My son just started walking and is doing great! I will admit the bar does affect his sleep.

My story is much the same as Lanae's..we were casted at first, no big deal..and now in braces at night. Nobody knows he had anything wrong with his feet when we go out..he's crawling and standing up on furniture at 7 months. Happy, healthy baby!

Hello Im 23 years old and i have clubbed feet. I was born with both my feet clubbed and i had casts on my feet till i was 4 years old. I had to learn how to crawl and walk with casts on and when they were taken off at 4 i had to learn all over again. I had to do physical therapy until i was about 10 years old. This all sound horrible but now i played soccer and i play for my high schools var team and i have no pain in my feet. The only side effects i find is that my feet are slightly smaller than normal, about size 4, and i cant point my toes. When i was about 14 I found out that one of the believed causes for clubbed feet is smoking. And the day i was born my dad stopped smoking and drinking. Now im not an idiot so i know that the reason my dad stopped smoking is because he knew he gave me clubbed feet, but he never told me. If either of you smoke tell your kids that could have been the reason for why there feet are clubbed, i know it will be hard but its much better for your child to hear it from you than through the internet. I still havent told them i know im waiting for them to tell me but i fear that day will never come because they keep many things from me. Dont make that mistake

I went for an ultrasound and was told my baby girl has a left club foot, I've been so worried because, the doctor told me when a baby has club foot they usually have a number of thing's wrong with them.
I got blood drawn for a lot of thing's everything came back "negative" I'm still so scard.

hi , i am now 24 weeks pregnant ( T.G)
we just got a second ultra sound that shows our baby seems to have clubbed feet!
I 've been very emotional , I feel there must be a reason, something I did wrong! me ad my spouse dont smoke and it doesnt run in either of our families!
my father and brother have severe flat foot! can that be related?

I grew up with a brother with down syndrome , and I'm very nervous of what is to come ..
the ultra sound and fetal echo showed all els e to be looking good .

does that mean teh chances of anything else are slim???

When i was born I had club feet. I had three surgeries when i was a baby, and had countless casts. Now, at 11 years old, I sometimes had severe pains in my feet. Also, I walk a little differently than the other kids. Sometimes, I can only stand on my feet for 20 minutes at a time. Kids make fun of me, like how I walk and run, but I don't listen to them. Even though I hate having club feet, I am thankful I have feet at all. When I complain to my mom about my feet, she calls them "special feet". Even with this disbility, I go on with my life.

My little sister has clubbed feet. Both feet were turned in at birth. She has worn casts until 7 months. She had surgery and they but pins in her feet. she had casts on for another month. She wore the shoes AKA "Her snow board" all day and night. until she was 13 months. Now she wears the shoes only at night. She walks like a normal girl. She wears shoes and still can walk normal. She's like a normal girl except when you see her at night.
