I am 40 and found out my fetus had down sydr through nuchal translucency screening (ultrasound to check on few markers- nasal bone, thick neck etc) at 11.5 weeks. I was told that my baby had a very thick neck and would most likely be abnormal so I went ahead and took the CVS. I know it has high risk of miscarriage (higher than amnio) but given my age, I didn't mind and plus I had a good feeling about the process since my doctor was very experienced in the field. The FISH result which screens the three big chromosomal disorders came in a day, and I got a call from my OB telling me that my baby had down at that point from the FISH result. The enitre CVS result came 8 days later. So I term my preg at 13.5 weeks.... hope this info helps. good luck on your paper

I am a 31 year old mother of 2 my 3month old daughter was diagnosed @ birth... I had what they said was a false positive on AFP, I refused an amnio, but did a stage 2 ultra sound and they said everything looked ok and the was a 3% chance of DS. Weather we found out durning the pregnancy or not would never had made a difference to us. Our beautiful baby girl is everything we wanted and MORE!

I am pregnant with my 3rd child and at a recent ultrasound there was a very noticeable thickening of the back of my babies head which they tell me is a sign of Downs Syndrome. Im only 20 years old, and im very scared that this baby will have downs. Not that i will love it less or have the pregnancy terminated, No matter what this is my child and i will love and protect it just like my other children. I just wanted to find someone who is my age and have a downs baby and wanted to ask their advice.

Hi All,
I was just hired by the school to help the 1st grade teacher in class with a little girl who has DS. I don't know much about DS but have been researching it. I was wondering if you mom's out there could give me a little info on DS, like behavioural issues. I've heard she can be very bossy. Should I be firm or pick my battles? From what I have read DS children are very loving. I have also been told that she like to run away. What if I have to chase her, if I catch her, will that upset her? Should I disipline her or are there special ways to disipline a DS child. Help, I need all the info I can get from mom's who are experienced....thank you so much. ps. I have 3 children of my own, should I treat her as I do my own children. Or are there different technices for DS children.

I don't have a child in my life at this time, but I would be interested in being a foster mom,a respite mom, or an single adoptive mom to a child with down syndrome..I also considered being a mother's helper to a new mom,who is overwhelmed by this new life ,a llittle angel. If you need a mother's helper or a respite situation. feel free to email me.I have experience with this type of child. Hope to hear from you.
