Hi - I am a mother of two but family of four with hearing loss. I have a 12 yr old and a year old. My son, a year old, does wears two hearing aids. He did take them out often. And there isn't any other ways to prevent from an infant by eating them. Just have to teach them not to - tons of times. My son - I decided to take it down and wait 'til he's old enough to understand not to take them out. He takes ABRs every three to six months for any changes and no changes so far. So I only use hearing aids for special occasions such as speech therapy appointments or family/friend gatherings so my son can hear and learn what he hears. There is a clip that keeps the batteries closed and unable to open by infants so there isn't for us to worry about them choking on batteries. If you feel that your child isn't ready for hearing aids because of taking them out so often - I suggest you to put those on hold until he's about a 1 1/2 yr old. Old enough to understand to leave them on. Otherwise your child may be telling you that hearing aids aren't working or too much static in them.....it happens to mine and it was returned twice for repairments - that explained why he took them off. Might want to have the audioloist to check those hearing aids on computer connection. Hope this helps in any way!!
