I am currently 22 weeks pregnant with my second child and last night, I got a call from my family doctor 24 hours ago telling me that there is an extra muscle. I am freaking out. I have called Sick Kids hospital (toronto) peds. cardiology clinic, and I was only able to leave a message. My OB doesn't seem to be concerned but my family doctor. I haven't done any of the prenantal testing to find out if there is any abnormalities, and I really don't want to even consider having an amniocentesis. Does anyone know what this could mean or could possibly be?

I am not sure...but my son was born with many other heart problems....so if you need to talk. Also i think the only way to tell if there is a heart condition would be to have a level 2 ultrasound...I am doing that for my second child...i have already had one..They say your 2nd child can have higher risk...i am not sure an amnio would really detect that as it is not chromosomal and nor chemical....but definatley have a doctor reccomend a level 2...I didn't know my firts son was going to be born with heart defects...when he was born...he almost didn't make it...they airvaced him tio a bigger city and he was in the hospital for 8 wks...he has had many surgeries and i think you should be prepared for what road may or may not lie ahea..though it might be nothing as the doctor says

Well I spoke to Sick Kids today and they want my family doctor to send the ultrasound report in. After they review it I may have to go for a fetal ECG and further testing if needed. I am glad that I was able to get a response from them, felt like a weight was being lifted off my shoulders

Well I met with the genetic counsellor and my little man doesn't have a heart defect. There is a bright spot within his heart. Thus giving him a higher risk of having Down's Syndrome. The chances of him having downs syndrome is 1 in 500.
