My daughter is ten years old and has developed and obsession with washing her hands. I am not sure why this has developed, but it is definitely getting worse. Does anyone else out their have kids with OCD?

I have OCD myself. When I was younger, I had a hard time with it but then I started using medications. They helped a lot but I don't really like the idea of being dependent on drugs to get through the day. I've just started CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and hope to wean myself of the medication eventually. If you can, I'd recommend starting her with the CBT and only using medication if it was absolutely necessary.

My ds 11 has OCD and we have had to take him to therapy twice a week for the past year to bring the root causes undercontroll. It might take a script to get your daughter the help she needs in girls it can be conected to hormones and such!

My adopted daughter is FASD and has several issues stemming from the prenatal exposure to alcohol. She is obsevvive about lots of things We try our best to channel these obsession into constructive stuff Like how she is compelled to button every button she sees It does not matter who is wearing the button or where it is She is going to button it

My 9 year old son also has OCD. He washes his hands a lot during the day and I have to keep wipes in my purse at all times. He also uses about 4-5 wipes during the day at school. I am always asked from the teacher to bring a new tub of wipes in. It all started when he was shown a germ movie in Kindergarten class at school. Ever since then he has become obsessed about germs. My doctor has talked to him about it and we are dealing with it through therapy. He also has Aspergers Syndrome and OCD sometimes goes along with that. But thank god he does not need medication it is not that bad, YET!!

My honest opinion is that she doesn't need medication or any therapy to cure a hand washing problem. I myself am OCD in many ways, things that normally wouldn't be thought of as "obsessive compulsive." for example: Me: "MOM, why do you always have to clean up after everything and repeat yourself a million times??!?!, i swear you are soooooo OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE!!!!!" Mom: "The insanity in my head is far too great that i don't need any around me." Your daughter may be going through a slight mind battle, or is just bored?

Yes, I have a 14 year old daughter with OCD and Depression. She has had this since she was 8. She was given medicine
for about 2 years and she seemed to be doing better. Now things are very bad. From what I have experienced it seems to come and go. She is now on Luvox but I don't see much change in her. I don't know what to do. She is no longer attending school she has to be taught at home. I hate to see my beautiful daughter miss out on all those teenage things.

Yes, my son is now 13 years old and has had OCD since age 4. It started with obsessive brushing his teeth. We had to pull him away from the sink and hold him until the anxiety went away. We then took him to Yale Child Study Center. He is on Meds now and doing great.

As a preschool teacher I know that washing hands can seem like an obsession, simply becasue it involves WATER and water is FUN! However, I know that washing over and over and over is sure to be worriesome for a parent. Does she ever obsess on other things?
