I live in Virginia, and my 6 year old son with PDD-NOS was issued ISS for hitting another child on the bus. I was told by my older daughter that evening, the other child was the aggressor. When I questions the school, they removed his ISS and the driver change her story to horseplay . Since then, I have asked to view the school bus video and was sent a letter 30 days later that they cannot accommodate my request as video tapes are not routinely maintained and not part of a student record. I was also told verbally over the phone that if I pursued it and they see my son hit another child, then he would receive a five day suspension off the bus. How can I get the school to let me view this tape and is their a retention policy in Virginia for video surveillance? I want to see what safeguards I need to put in place since they are so freely to issue ISS. With him being speech delayed, he is limited on what he can say/report for being bullied. I need help.....
