We noticed my now 3 year old dd had a speech delay so we got involved with Early Intervention and now that dd is in an early education school she has literally exploded with speech though she has a long way to go. She was assessed for ASD and so far they said she doesnt fit the criteria but want to do one more assessment when school is over. They said the problem is that she is improving so rapidly (less than 4 months). There was only one professional who felt she was autistic based on the fact that she doesnt always respond to her name when watching cartoons (my 5 yo girl who has no delays also does the same thing), and she would flap her hands when she was angry. She has stopped the flapping when she is angry now that she can communicate her feelings verbally. My worry is that they said she has a cognitive delay of 6-8 months and they wont tell me what that means for her. Her teachers at school have noticed a difference in her speech and behavior and they dont seem to feel she fits on the autistic spectrum. I am not sure what to think either.
