Hi i,ve just joined the forum and was looking for some advice.
I have a twelve yr old disabled child with the mental age of a 12 to 14 month old baby,
He has severe eating problems.
Speach- makes noises but can not speak.
His understanding is very limited.
very poor short term memory.
Behaviour problems,most recent spitting constantly.
He has never been diagnosed, though looking back i feel he had a stroke after undergoing heart surgery at 8wks.I also feel he has autism, his consultant is starting to agree with me. I have been told about The Son-Rise Programe and wondered if their are any parents who have tried this.I just feel so low and need to find some kind of help for him as his dad and myself are not getting any younger and we have no family support. any advice would be much appreciated
Thank you.
ps i live in the south west bristol/bath area

He sounds similar to my son. My son is 16 now and weighs only 6 stone and i have to give him skandishake to help him gain weight. he also has delayed puberty. He has little speech, mostly single words. he also loves to spit on his fingers then watch it drip to the floor, Nice Nice. Fortunately he does have a diagnosis of Autistic spectrum disorder and complex learning disability. I dont understand why your son was not statemented?
