we compost most things, we recycle plastic, tins, glass, cardboard and take as much rubbish as we can to the kaup ourselves....

We also try and avoid using plastic carrier bags. And i used to use cloth nappies with sofia. We dont turn lights on during the day...nor the heating. We try to avoid putting the heating on all together as the house is quite big and costs a fortune! lol...Everybody is good at turning lights off as they leave rooms....

We bathe my twins together with sofia, we bath my step sis and my real sis together and the boys shower. (to save water)

Its in EVERYONES best interests to go green...not only does it help the environment but it saves money too. And those big clothtype bags you can get from supermarkets instead of using carrier bags are MUCH easier than plastic ones.

heres a few things we do

turn off the water while brushing until time to spit...same goes in the kitchen no water running for unessasary reasons.\

the 2 older girls shower together, and Jacob and Emilee shower together

we turn off heat if we can, and lights as well

we have garage sales instead of throwing things out

I want to get canvas bags to shop with....no one does that here in my city yet so they might look at me weird but i might start a trend ya never know

I ebay alot of our stuff....or put it up for the new house. But with clothes i bag them and put them in the attic as I have another little girl who could sure use her big sisters clothes! lol

I have a few canvas bags, but I would need some more, I see them at yard sales all the time for like a quater so....maybe thats what I should do....but it's hard for me I like to do alot of shopping at once for the month and go back as needed to get things such as fresh fruits and veggies and breads milk ect

one of my old teachers is a close friend of the family....i cook for her children once a week as she's unwell and in return she gives me cookbooks, clothes...and so many little nick nacks which are going to make the next few years MUCH easier.

not last year...but the year before (i think) the South west of england had a hose pipe ban....so alot of those habbits still havent worn off yet! we're still stingy with water.

I dread to think what yours looks like!

Lol i live qith quite alot of my family but i keep my food stuffs seperate...we just share basics like bread, butter, milk, yoghurts as we share a fridge.

But i do a bigggggggg shop once a month (as i cant drive i need my boyfriend to take me) and buy tins, biscuits, long life juices etc...really stock up and then a couple of times a week i just pop into the nearest town and buy fresh veg or some meat or something.

So you have a wtare restriction is what you mean?
We have that to, only aloud to water lawns at certain times of day and only on certain days

Name: Nicolaaa | Date: Apr 20th, 2008 4:39 PM
we used to.....we went from one year having hardly any rain and the resevoirs down south nearly running dry.....to really bad flooding last year!

We dont have water restrictions anymore here. Not sure about elsewhere....but i havent heard anything.

we were banned from using hose pipes in the garden.....so no watering the plants with them...we had to use watering cans...and even then we werent allowed to go nuts, it meant no pools either.

oh hose pipes=water hose.....i see in America we call them water hoses

Name: Nicolaaa | Date: Apr 20th, 2008 4:45 PM
ohhhhhhhhh right lol.....water hose sounds weird! lol....
i often wonder why we say stuff different...like if we both speak english...why cant we talk the same?
Even spellings! We spell colour you spell it color, we spell labour, you spell labor, we spell honour you spell honor, etc etc

and different words...like what we call dummies, you call pacifiers. What you call a highway is our Motorway. lol

and i personally have a hard time understanding ppl from your country we go to vegas once a year and so many tourist we meet there, anyhow i talked to man from england once and felt like a complete idiot when he got up and left kinda irritated w/ me because of the convo barrier...it was so proper and such a strong accent.....i couldn't make out most of what he said and dreaded every time i had to say excuse me or can you repeat that, lol very ackward

I dont think my voice is THAT british...this past year iv got worse...i sound quite posh these days i must stop it! lol...when people on here have heard my voice they had trouble understanding me...and thought i sounded british.

Name: mother2five | Date: Apr 20th, 2008 5:04 PM

I bring my own cloth bags when I shop, I use environmentally safe laundry detergent I recycle any thing that can be recycled. I never use aerosol sprays. I just looked in to a heating oil that burns 20% cleaner then what I am currently using.
