hey i see alot of you here and in sue date recycle......i know they offer that in alot of places not sure if they do here ill have to check....if so they do not advertise it or push ppl to do so....i think it should be the law...i know one place we used to live it cost etra to recycle....i also think it should be free

Some councils here provide better recycling facilities than others....our council is very strict...and we have little microchips in our wheelie bins to ensure that we dont go over the weight limit. Its really lame....especially as our refuse collection is once a fortnight!!! when you have a family the size of ours...and a bin the same size as everyother family its hard...so we (although are very careful with rubbish) have to take some to the kaup ourselves.

We are given a small black recycling box...for tins and glass bottles...thats collected once a fortnight too. Plastic, paper, cardboard etc has to be recycled off your own back in wiltshire...in some parts they arent so strict though.

Easy I use all Melaleuca tea tree oil products. No chlorox, lysol, or other crap crosses my doorway.

Name: bmes | Date: Apr 20th, 2008 5:51 PM
i recycle. i've always turned the water off while brushing my teeth until it's time to spit...i can't stand people who don't...just annoys me...lol....i always turn of the light when i leave a room, and most lights are only turned on at night, because i keep all the curtains open during the day and just use natural light. the light bulbs we use are those energy saving ones. in the winter the heat is always on but not really warm...just comfortable, and usually still have to wear an extra layer of clothes.we do turn it down more at night and just wear extra layers. in the summer time, our a/c is on, but i start it up in the afternoon when it gets super hot...in the morning we open our front and back door and let the cool morning air breeze through, and it seems to help a bit, but usually by july/august the breeze isn't so cool in the morning anymore. and the heat or a/c is NEVER on if we are away for a couple days. and yep...water restrictions here too...and i bathe the kids together, but i wasn't really thinking of saving water(which i guess i am so that's good), but more because it's just easier that way...lol...oh and i only shave my legs if i'm having a bath, cause otherwise the water would be running FOREVER....

things i WILL be doing....on april 26th they are selling compost bins for only 27 dollars, so we are going to go get one then. and i'm willing to try out some environmentally friendly cleaning products, if someone can tell me what a good one is, and if it's NOT expensive!!!!

I personally wouldn't trust any "green" product by Clorox...

I make most of my own cleaners using tea tree oil. There is also a brand I love called Method. It's cheap and available in Shoppers and Safeway, so I don't have to go out of my way to buy it. I recycle all of our papers, cans, bottles etc. and give all of our old clothes etc. to the Salvation Army. I am much too lazy for a garage sale LOL I like to just be able to dump all my crap in the bins.
We don't use lights during the day and a lot of the time one of us showers with Kaden rather than bathing seperately. We have been buying energy efficient bulbs (mainly because the regular incandescent ones are being banned) and we bought blinds that keep heat in/out for our whole house.

yeah i thought of melaleuca cleaning products, and i'm sure they've improved over the years, but i'm realy really reluctant, cause they really sucked before...lol...and also i like to be able to just go down to the local store if i need something, and not have to order it in and wait for it.

Method bmes. They sell it at Shoppers. They have safe cleaners, wet dryer sheets with no chemicals.... everything.

It's not expensive either. They also sell most of the stuff at the Safeway where I live, so you could probably find it if you have one near you.

thanks randi!! i will look into it....i'm due for a cleaning product shop real soon. isn't it funny how they all seem to run out all around the same time? lol....same with makeup!! ugh...then you go buy makeup and it's like over 100 dollars cause you have to buy everything all at once...hubby always FREAKS!! lol...what???? well sorry it's like 10 dollars for this...15 for that...lol...

Now bmes you know it was just one product you didn't like, you admitted that before. Not fair to judge over 300+ products for one window cleaner, but yes, even that I am sure has improved!! I also don't mind waiting only 3 days esp since it is a pain to get anywhere with two kids and no available car...having it delivered to my doorstep is a dream come true!!
Also remember every cent back if you hate anything...not saying that for you, just anyone else that may consider it.

michele...no i didn't like the glass cleaner. and yes that was the only one i mentioned before.....but there were other ones i didn't like also...i just didn't mention them,,,i used all their cleaning products before, because my step mom at the time sold melaleuca, and me and my sister did all the cleaning in the house. she would bitch at us all the time about how things weren't clean enough, and I told her it wasn't us it was the cleaners. she didn't believe us, so we stopped doing our chores, which made my step mom have to clean everything, and when she did, she too realized that they weren't very good....but like i said....i'm sure they have improved since then...that was a long time ago. i did however like their shakes and bars.

has anyone tried the presiden'ts choice "go green" products? are they truly eco friendly? or even good quality? cause i find some of the president's choice products better than brand name stuff or just as good....but some stuff isn't as good....has anyone tried any of their stuff?

we recycle
reuse
turn off lights and water, heat asoften as possiblee

Name: homemommichele | Date: Apr 20th, 2008 8:26 PM
Sorry you had only mentioned the glass cleaner before, however they are all wonderful now and I don't want people to think they are crap when they definately are not because of your step mom. Did she mix them properly?? They are all concentrated to be more cost effective, and if she was doing it wrong, then you could be putting down a company publically because of her mistake. Of course all new things have "bugs" to work out too, and everything improves over 20 years.
I do know I have Never had a problem and they work better then Anything I have ever used before. In fact a friend of mine recently signed up...I had mentioned it to her, but not pressured her and she finally got around to it. She then called me and cussed me out. Why??? Because I let her wait 2 years before trying it!

Briseis mentioned she is vegetarian.

Did any of you know that the best way one could help the environment would be to become vegetarian?

Check out this web site.

lindalu....have you ever looked at the Dr. Mirkin book? he's put together TONS of really great vegetarian recipes....even desserts...yum....there are a couple recipes that have seafood in them , but the majority of it, all beans, lentils, grains, veggies, and spice mixtures to add to them....it's sooooo good.

i think it's kind of a diet book...but he doesn't really call it a diet, just more of a change in lifestyle and a better/healthy way of eating...we're not vegetarians, but we do make ALOT of the recipes in his book just because they taste so good.

Name: lindalu | Date: Apr 21st, 2008 5:45 PM
Bmes no I haven't seen his cook book. I have taken recipes from other books and substituted other ingredients for meat or dairy. I find several non veterinarian/vegan recipes to be quite good when substitutes are made.

Name: lindalu | Date: Apr 21st, 2008 5:47 PM
For meat substitutes I usually use Wheat gluten and for milk I will use soy milk.

shite *above* not about :-)

Name: lindalu | Date: Apr 22nd, 2008 9:48 AM
Marija every one should hug a tree, if they did it would show they cared and maybe our planet would be in much better health. Thats the one thing we all have in common, our planet! If that gets sick we all suffer.
